Ocean Blue Photography and Design

Crater Lake National Park at Sunrise. I am not what you would call a morning person, but I will go to great lengths to get the shot. In planning our Oregon road trip, I had not originally planned to be at Crater Lake for sunrise, nor had I anticipated there being so much snow in May. There were several factors that contributed to this photo being captured the way that it was. We had our destinations plotted out and the next stop, after Crater Lake, was Toketee Falls, whic...h after 10am gets bad dappled lighting hitting it. In order to be at Toketee Falls while the light was good, we had to get an early start, which meant the only time we could see Crater Lake, was sunrise. I had seen many sources that mentioned how phenomenal sunrise at Crater Lake was, so that actually worked out. All along, I had envisioned capturing a wide angle shot, which would show the lake in it’s entirety. I did extensive researched learning which hikes we could gain the proper vantage point from. All of that information went down the toilet, when we found out how much snow was still there. Rim Dive was closed. The location that I wanted to shoot from was not accessible and was considered an avalanche zone. The spot pictured, was the only area with a plowed road, so it became our only option. To create the photo that I had envisioned, I had to stitch 3 photos together, creating that full lake view.
