WESTERN MIDGET RACING UNVEILS 2021 SLATE OF EVENTS WATSONVILLE, CALIF. (December 24, 2020) The 2021 Western Midget Racing schedule has been released with five... different venues across California and Arizona that will play host to the fastest growing dirt open wheel series in the west. The series will visit Adobe Mountain Speedway, Ventura Raceway, Ocean Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, and a fifth venue To Be Announced across 29 planned races. Mitchell Faccinto claims 60th running of the Johnny Key Classic in Watsonville Saturday Watsonville, CA October 18, 2020Hanford, California’s Mitchell Faccin...to had been oh-so-close to Ocean Sprints victory lane in the past, before he finally checked it off his list over the Summer. On Saturday night he returned and added another, only this time it was at the prestigious Johnny Key Classic, as he tallied one of the biggest victories of his career aboard the Western Metal Company No. 37 mount. Faccinto earned $3,000 for winning the Winged 360 Sprint Car main event with an extra grand coming in courtesy of Williams Roofing. He also took home $300 for leading the third lap of the dash, courtesy of El Dorado Hills Landscape and Design. Also picking up wins at the 60th running of the Key Classic were Cody Burke with the IMCA Modifieds, Darren Thomas with the IMCA Sport Mods, Joe Gallaher with the Hobby Stocks and Ryan McClelland with the Four Bangers. The closest race of the night came with the Hobbies, as Gallaher just nipped Sam Kennedy at the Ed Entz checkered flag. It feels great to win the Johnny Key Classic tonight, Faccinto commented. The track changed pretty quick and I wasn’t quite sure which line to run, but once Shane Golobic showed me his nose, I knew I had to step it up. We have been close to several wins here and it felt awesome to finally do it back in July. To get another victory at the Key this evening is special for the entire 37 team. I can’t thank the Greenberg family and everyone that helps us out enough. This is a night we won’t forget, that is for sure. A total of 103 race cars packed into the Ocean Speedway pit area for the 60th running of the Johnny Key Classic. Championship night will now invade the quarter-mile on Friday November 6th featuring the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Four Bangers and the Western Midgets. Point standings have been updated on My Race Pass to reflect the 2 dropped races for the Ocean Sprints and there is quite the tussle up top. Mitchell Faccinto leads Bud Kaeding by 6 points and DJ Netto by 7 points. Blake Carrick is 4th, 28 points out. There are 2 races left this season, the next of which is the 60th Annual Johnny Key Classic on October 17th. The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, Hobby Stocks, and 4-Bangers will also be a part of the Key. The Western Midget Racing series has had their next race pushed to Nov. 6th so midget teams can attend the USAC race that night. : Joe Shivak Imagery

The #SandySmile Award was created to honor the memory of Sandy, who everyone would always notice had the largest smile on her face when at the race track. It matched her glowing attitude as well. This year, Sandy’s family awarded the $303 cash prize to John Pierce!! This award is more than just the cash though. It’s a reminder that the people we meet along the way at the race track can make an incredible impact on our lives, and that is what makes John such a worthy recipient! Congratulations!

This year’s #TerrySportsman Award winner was Bobby Hogge! To honor the memory and character of Terry Traub, the Traub family wanted to award a driver with $333 who showcased good sportsmanship through the entire weekend. Congratulations to Bobby Hogge for putting on an incredible show for us!
