I take on this new role with the utmost respect and humbled by the legacy of those who have led before me. Repost from @caimmigrant This year’s state legislative season is over, meaning that the bills that passed the legislature have been either signed or vetoed by @cagovernor. This year’s bills were especially urgent, because many addressed needs that have been laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by the lack of state/federal responses. It’s sometimes difficult to keep track of bills because there are so many, but we put together a list of key bills... that were vetoed by the governor. Many of the bills would have supported low-income, immigrant individuals/families/workers of color who are disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. The decision to veto these bills have life or death consequences - many folks are one paycheck away from being houseless, struggling from being laid off, or having to continue working in unsafe conditions. We are disappointed in the governor's decision to sign these bills, which sustain structural inequalities in our public institutions.
