Dementia can make everyday activities difficult or even overwhelming for our loved ones. But when we engage and finish activities, they can help reduce stress, tension, and give us a sense of accomplishment. Here is a list of activities focused on helping them feel that sense of accomplishment and engagement without the pressure of doing it wrong! We hope this helps keep your loved ones engaged and active. https://dailycaring.com/activities-for-people-with-dementi/

Compassionate and dedicated are two words I would use to describe this next caregiver. She goes out of her way to help her family feel secure, comfortable, and provides so much relief for her client's family. Thank you!! https://youtu.be/aXjen_tcsu4
As nearby counties start to open up more, we want to say thank you to all of our caregivers who have worked tirelessly to help maintain the safety of our clients and their families. Many of our older community members are often stereotyped and discriminated against because of their age. This can feel dehumanizing and lead to a host of other consequences for our loved ones. Here are some helpful ways to feel more inclusive and affirming!

Loneliness and its Effect on Mental Health While many of us are staying home to protect our loved ones' physical health, many seniors living alone also need support for their mental health. Learn more about how loneliness affects our mental health, especially for our seniors, and how to support them through it.
Quarantine Tip #4 - Decide on a plan for your loved one if YOU get sick. If something does happen to you, it will be difficult to make clear decisions for your loved one. While it may feel overwhelming to consider these possibilities, now is the time to think this through. Some helpful questions to ask yourself: Who will care for them? Where can they stay? What instructions and guidance will someone need in order to meet my loved one’s daily care needs? Make sure to write it down!
With the challenges of the last few months, we are so thankful for our Oasis Family. One of our dear caregivers shared a tragic situation she’s been going through during the quarantine season. If you are able to help, you can find more information about the situation below. https://www.gofundme.com/f/abiola-akinboroye
# - ! There are so many things outside our control that everyday life feels overwhelming. Take a deep breath, take the next step, and do the next right thing. You control your actions, how you respond to people and situations, and what receives your attention. This tip is summed up well by Reinhold Niebuhr’s familiar Serenity Prayer: ... God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. See more
One of the things we're missing during this stay-at-home order is hugs. What a great idea and way to show physical affection to our loved ones! Share some fun and creative ways in the comments below on how you've been able to share love with your loved ones while staying at home https://bit.ly/3cH9Pxb

# - With a disease so unknown and dangerous, it’s easy to give COVID-19 our full attention. When a pandemic like COVID-19 stretches on for months at a time, and is talked about everywhere you look, it’s easy to become all-consumed by it. Some tips to keep your mind, heart, and body healthy include: ... Limit News/Social media to 10-15 minutes a day. Instead, read a book, do a puzzle, paint a picture, do some gardening, etc. Whether a brisk walk, or vigorous exercise; Get out of your head by getting into your body This is a great opportunity to meet (from a distance) new neighbors, or to call and write letters to people you care about
Those we love never truly leave us. They continue to live on in our hearts and our memories <3
Quarantine Tip #1: Maintain Social Distancing, but don't fall into Social Isolation We’re social creatures and need connection, especially during challenging times. One of the biggest changes resulting from the COVID-19 shutdown is social/physical distancing. This has, for many people, caused feelings of isolation, and even depression. While you should continue to maintain proper physical distance from others, you should seek opportunities to connect socially. Whether using a video app like facetime or zoom, or visiting with a neighbor outdoors (wearing a mask), make it a point to stay connected.
