Sophomore and Junior Families The mandatory Trends in Standardized Testing event for sophomore and junior families will take place Thursday, Jan. 7, from 6:30pm to 7:30m, over zoom. At this event, families will learn more about the updated landscape regarding the SAT and ACT. We will have, Adam Ingersoll, who is a nationally known leading expert on the college admission testing process and is a frequent presenter in higher education conferences, faculty development workshops, and school seminars. You will hear from our Head of School, Rob Black, High School Principal, Karen Coyle, and our Associate Head of School, Dr. Matt Northrop, who will share the vision for the future of the Institute of Engineering. Our High School Engineering Teacher, Greg Gillis-Smith, will guide you on a virtual tour to show the new layout of the lab, talk through the exciting achievements of the program, and making a special announcement about an upcoming opportunity for students!

Class of 2022 Mark your calendar for our annual mandatory event called College Applications A Case Study that will be taking place on Monday, Jan. 11 and/or Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This event offers a behind the scenes perspective of the college application review and committee process. Each evening, a panel of five college admissions professionals will discuss the details of several actual student applications. They will highlight the strengths and weakn...esses of each file with the goal of helping students and parents understand how applications are evaluated. We have secured panelists from a variety of institutions highly selective, large public, medium private, liberal arts and University of California. In order to accommodate the greatest number of students and parents, we are offering this event twice with a different panel of five speakers each night. The same application files will be reviewed at each event. The application files that will be discussed will be provided prior to the event as it is helpful to become familiar with the content. Come Shop at Malachi's Closet Malachi’s Closet will be open this Thursday, Dec. 10, and Friday, Dec. 11, for by appointment only shopping. Please click the link below to sign up for a 15-minute time slot on either day between 10:00am to 3:00pm. COVID-19 protocols will be in place! Please be ready to wear a mask and social distance. #OCS sophomore, Mbali Khumalo and her brother, OCS alumnus, Siso Khumalo, participated in the annual Student Backpack Project organized by Rotary Ventura South and members from other area service clubs. Mbali has been involved in this initiative for the past three years! During the pandemic she volunteered at the Neighborhood Car Care Center in Ventura to fill over 700 backpacks with school supplies for students in need throughout Ventura. Not even the pandemic could keep Mbali away from making a difference! Way to go #lion

#OCS junior, Eden Tan, created an organization during this COVID-19 pandemic called Ash to Eden. It helps support local fire departments and firefighters! Eden said, "California and our community have been severely impacted by recent wildfires, and it is thanks to our local fire departments that many homes, businesses, and lives have been saved." In order to show her continued appreciation to the first responders, she created Ash to Eden to raise money to give care packages a...nd other means of support to local fire departments. Ash to Eden is partnering with our Environmental Club, as well as Clay for Life, led by our High School Art Teacher, Don Trimble, to sell succulent pots that are handmade by OCS students to raise money to support the cause. Over the weekend, our Director of Global Leadership, Matt Hurdle, presented to over 150 Brazilian eighth grade students who are considering attending school in America! They participated in a demo lesson from our Introduction to Global Leadership Course, and learned a little bit about who we are at Oaks Christian School! At the end of the presentation, Matt gave them personality tests, book recommendations, and inspirational videos to encourage and inspire them to begin their leadership journeys. Our Vice President of Admissions, John Huffman, personally flew to Brazil to share information about the #OCS experience for international students who choose to join our family! We are excited for the future #lions!
