During this month and through the year, OPUSD is promoting mental and emotional health support for all our families. This past year has brought unprecedented challenges to students, families, staff, and our community. We are here to support you and help connect you with mental health resources within our Oak Park community. For more information or if you need support, please go to: https://sites.google.com/opusd.org/oakparkconnects/home #OakParkConnects
Today is School Lunch Hero Day! To date, this school year, OPUSD cafeterias have served over 92,000 meals (most of those have been through our curbside pickup program) completely free of charge to our students and families through the federal extended meal program. Our dedicated nutrition staff has stayed on task through every challenging moment of this pandemic, resolutely working to roll out nourishing meals while maintaining (and even raising!) the quality standards of ou...r food and reinventing our program with each iteration of school in the last year. Our meals have given Distance Learning students small reminders of being at school. They’ve offered overextended parents relief from meal preparation while giving them the comfort of knowing that their children are eating healthy meals to get them through the school day. Our staff has done all this with seeming effortlessness, but their contributions cannot be understated. Please join us in celebrating our School Lunch Heroes Carole Ly and our student nutrition staff! They truly are some of OPUSD’s greatest superheroes!
Happy Staff Appreciation Week! We love our teachers and staff and are so thankful for everything you do for our students and families! Thank you!
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. It is observed annually to celebrate the many contributions of the 24 million-plus Americans who are of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent. As defined by AsianPacificHeritage.gov AAPI is a rather broad term encompassing all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, May is Asian American and Pacific I...slander Heritage Month! Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, and Easter Island). The influence and impact of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans on society are evident throughout our country’s history, especially in California where the influences from our Pacific Rim neighbors have led to the amazing diversity within our state. According to the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC), the 2021 theme for AAPI Heritage Month is "Advancing Leaders Through Purpose-Driven Service." In OPUSD, in recognition of the AAPI Heritage Month, all students will be participating in a district-wide activity on Friday, May 7th, as well as other teacher-led classroom lessons and activities during the month. Please join us in celebrating our Asian American and Pacific Islander families who continue to enrich our community and our District!
