#Repost @matias_antonio_bombal with @get_repost In a treasure chest of fantastic photos saved since 1933 by organist Everett Nourse, that I have been scanning for preservation, this may be the most remarkable: During the run of GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 at the Paramount Theatre of the Arts in the summer of 1933, Nourse either snapped (as I also have the negative) or acquired this 2 by 3 inch photo of the organist at the Paramount, Eddie Sellen (January 2, 1896- November, 1966...) Sellen was the organist for the opening of the Paramount in 1931 and was still master of the console by the summer of 1933. He also wrote music and married the stage and screen actress Billie Bird (1908-2004) He had played the Strand and President Theatres in San Francisco prior to arriving at the Oakland Paramount. This original console left the Paramount in the 1960's and has literally travelled across the United States only to have retuned home at last this year, where it will soon be re-installed in the very spot it was designed for originally. As of March 11th, the City of Oakland has ordered the postponement or cancellation of events at venues with a capacity of more than 1000 people, effective through March 31st. This will affect all events scheduled at the Paramount Theatre during this time period. Currently, we are working with the show promoters to determine whether a given event will be cancelled or postponed. Our website and social media accounts will continue to be updated with the latest info. Due to the recommendation from Alameda County Public Health Department to not hold public events of a thousand or more people, tonight’s Cécile McLorin Salvant’s Ogresse concert at Paramount Theatre has been postponed for a later date to be determined.
