It may be early June but things are starting to heat up in the interior. Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially to vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. Remember to hydrate, wear loose-fitting clothing, and never leave children or pets in the car! #CAwx

Expect gusty winds across portions of SW California through tonight. Northerly winds in S. Santa Barbara County and the I-5 Corridor. Gusty onshore winds in the Antelope Valley. Gusts 40-50 mph all areas.

Thanks to the marine layer/stratus, onshore flow, and high pressure aloft there is a large difference in temperature across SoCal. It's nice and cool here along the coast, but as you move towards the desert it's approaching 100! There's something for everyone here! #CAwx #SoCal

Happy Friday morning, SoCal! Did you wake up under a warm blanket of stratus this morning? We definitely did here in Oxnard, and same for the folks out in Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island. It will be another day of slowwwww clearing, particularly close to shore. #CAwx #stratus

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 17.06.2021

There will be continued elevated fire weather conditions across the interior through Friday due to heat, low RH, and gusty winds. Fuels are unseasonably dry so please use extra caution with any source of ignition. Stay alert! #CAwx #SoCal #CAfire

I spy the marine layer stratus inching its way back in....can you? One of our teleworkers snapped this photo from her balcony in Oxnard while enjoying the last bit of sunshine before the clouds anchor back in for the night. #CAwx #SoCal #marinelayer #stratus #oxnard

Let's take a look at those lunchtime temperatures! It's another warm day away from the coast, but much cooler than yesterday. Close to shore, it's another cool day in the 60s thanks to stubborn clouds and onshore flow. Enjoy the afternoon, we're so close to the weekend! #CAwx

Here's a look at the climate data for April 2021 across portions of Southwest California. Most sites did not receive any measurable precipitation, and those that did only received a couple hundredths at most. Tough way to end out the wet season. #CAwx

HEADS UP: if you're planning on hiking or adventuring through local mountain areas today be aware of the potential (slight chance) for elevated thunderstorms this afternoon. If a thunderstorm develops there is a chance of dry lightning and gusty winds. Stay alert!! #CAwx #SoCal

NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN! High Surf is expected along most of our beaches through 9 AM Wednesday, with Warning-level surf on the #CentralCoast early Monday through Tuesday morning. Use extra caution at the beach!! Strong rip currents and sneaker waves will affect many areas.

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 26.12.2020

A large long-period northwest swell will continue to affect the coastal waters through much of next week. Large surf will continue, especially for the Central Coast with breaking waves peaking 12-16 feet, with local sets up to 18 feet. Breaking waves up to 5 to 9 feet are likely along the Ventura and Los Angeles county coastal areas with local sets to 10 feet across the Ventura exposed west facing beaches. Elevated surf 3-7 feet will be likely as well across the exposed west ...facing beaches across the Santa Barbara South Coast. Impacts include dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves, large breaking waves for the Ventura and Morro Bay harbor entrances. Plan to avoid these hazardous conditions, stay off rock walls and jetties, and never turn your back on the ocean. A secondary larger swell will bring higher surf early next week and continue through much of the week overall. A High Surf Warning is likely to be issued for the Central Coast as surf over 20 feet is expected. See more

So, what is the climate outlook for the day 6-10 period (Jan 7-11)? Well, unfortunately not so great for precipitation. The CPC is showing a 30-40% probability of below normal precipitation. As for temperatures, looks like equal chances for above/below normal. Looking a bit further out in time, we are favored to be warmer and drier than normal. La Niña sure has its grip on us. #CAwx #SoCal ##laniña

The strong Santa Ana winds expected on Monday will likely impact many east-facing harbors, including Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island. Winds near 30kt can be expected along with steep waves near 5ft. These conditions will be hazardous to mariners and harbors will be unsafe. #CAwx

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 30.10.2020

Obviously the strong Santa Ana winds and critical fire weather conditions are the main story, but we also must highlight the cold overnight temps in the Antelope Valley! A Freeze Warning will be in effect from 3am-9am with temps as low as 26 expected! #CAwx

Red Flag Warnings for LA/Ventura counties late tonight-Tue. A particularly dangerous situation for LA county mtns Mon afternoon/evening due to unusual combination of very strong winds, single digit humidities, and extremely dry vegetation. Photo-Stephen Coleman #LAWeather #cawx

A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior and growth if a fire starts. Use EXTREME caution with potential fire sources. Here are some examples of sources that have started fires in the past. Some are obvious. Some are rather surprising.

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 21.09.2020

Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds expected over much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties Sunday night through Tuesday, peaking on Monday. Consider taking down any temporary or portable shelters. Avoid Avalon Harbor. Red Flag Warnings in effect as well. Use EXTREME caution with potential fire sources. If you are in a wildfire threatened area, be SET now to evacuate if a fire breaks out.

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 11.09.2020

A storm system over the area Sunday into Sunday night will quickly move east of the area on Monday, with moderate to potentially strong Santa Ana winds expected by around noon Monday through Monday night. The northeast wind gusts will range from 50 mph in the valleys to 60 mph in the mountains, with potential damaging gusts up to 75 mph possible. In addition to these winds, widespread very low humidities are expected, with RH values in the teens in the valleys and in the lowe...r teens to single digits over the mountains. This will initiate a period of possible critical fire weather concerns. The winds will diminish quickly late Monday night, but fire weather concerns may continue into Tuesday, and possibly through much of next week. Moderate to strong winds can create dangerous cross winds on area roads. Use caution driving. In addition, avoid any fire-related activities such as campfires, weed abatement, smoking, and fireworks. Good morning early birds! Temperatures today will be trending a bit cooler than yesterday but remaining quite a bit above normal for inland areas. Temps along the coast will be near to a bit below normal and definitely feeling more like fall! Enjoy the beautiful day! #CAwx

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 02.08.2020

Marine layer stratus is deeply entrenched over the coast and most of the coastal valleys early this morning. How come it isn't over the western half of the Santa Barbara South Coast you may ask? Gusty north (offshore) winds over that area are pushing the clouds away! #CAwx

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 26.07.2020

It's the start of a new work week and it's gonna be a fantastic one weather-wise! We're cooling down a bit today but still remaining above normal. Then by late week we'll be below normal! Have a great Monday, everyone! #CAwx

Happy Saturday, Los Angeles! If you're up early this morning be careful of patchy dense fog from LAX to Long Beach. Visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less, so please slow down and use your low beams if you're driving. Have a safe and wonderful day! #CAwx #fog

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 14.06.2020

We're already seeing gusty N to NE winds across the higher elevations early this morning. Combined with the very dry air, several stations are near Red Flag criteria (yellow) and a couple are hitting criteria (red). Be VERY careful with any potential ignition sources today! #CAwx

US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard 05.06.2020

There will be gusty Santa Ana winds across the interior of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties late tonight through Friday afternoon , with gusts up to 35-45 mph. The combination of gusty winds, very low relative humidity, hot temperatures, and extremely dry fuels will likely result in extreme fire danger for the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains as well as the Santa Clarita Valley. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for these areas from 3am to 6pm on Friday. Most other areas will experience elevated to brief critical fire danger. There will be the potential for large fires, rapid fire growth, and extreme fire behavior if ignition occurs.
