#PregnantMomLife... I’m 18 weeks and I still get sick most mornings, I’m still tired, and just lacking the motivation to get much done. Midday naps are life. I will say I finally feel more like myself again and just started working out last week! I had NO desire to do anything up until a couple weeks ago except maybe a walk here and there. . Nobody is free until everybody is free. . During an episode of Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man with @themanacho, @officiallymcconaughey shared a piece of a poem by Langston Hughes. ... O let America be America again - The land that never has been yet - And yet must be- the land where EVERY man is free. I’ve never heard of Juneteenth until this year. I’m celebrating it now and each year forward. We have come so far but have a long way to go. I’m here for it. . There are petitions on nearly every platform like change.org to make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday. It needs to be. Everyone needs to know this day in history. Hopefully there will be more and more to celebrate in the coming years as we fight for more progress and change. #juneteenth #blacklivesmatter

I sadly have never met owners @mamahilldoot @kimberlydurdin (pictured here) but I truly hope to one day. They offer so many incredible services (see last post of their @thebirthingpeoplefoundation logo/ go to their page and see EVE...RYTHING) and I know how important this Birth Center will be to the black community and to so many others. . I’m a doula, a birth worker...but I don’t do anything in comparison to these women to make an impact in my community..at all. I’m in awe. In America, black mortality and morbidity rates are 4-5x higher than that of white women. I remember @apmarkel talking about this in training and I just remember waiting to hear the reasons why...do black women have a higher risk for infection or for some reason their blood pressure skyrockets in labor??...my ignorance was presented here as I learned that it’s for no other reason outside of racism. And things aren’t getting better, they are getting worse. The rates of maternal death in America are RISING. My thought has been, well I can only advocate for those I am with at the hospital... I don’t know how I can make my voice heard on this issue. Well this is how we can start. By not ignoring the issue and bringing attention to the people and organizations that are doing the work. I can’t wait to see the @kindredspacela birthing center come to life and I hope you all, especially the mothers who follow me on here, will follow along too.
