WFWA's annual tamale fundraiser is quickly approaching. The NU Spanish club fundraised to donate corn husks, an integral ingredient in the making of tamales, to WFWA. We will also be helping make the tamales next week. All proceeds go to supporting the farmworkers of the Yuba County region. Let me know if anyone would like to buy some tamales!

As Thanksgiving approaches, we should all take a moment to express gratitude for farmworkers, the hard working hands who grow and harvest the food that we're about to eat on Thanksgiving. As the president of the Spanish Club, I was able to organize a collection of turkeys and 100 lbs of potatoes for farmworker's Thanksgiving meals. We are grateful for the food that is provided by the farmworkers and hope that this is a small expression of our gratitude.

We were featured in the WFWA newspaper for the Yuba County Region twice this year. The first article was for helping WFWA make 2,000 tamales, raising a total of $2,500 to help with farmworkers’ needs. The second article was about the pasta we collected to help WFWA fill boxes with food to give to the farmworkers. The Spanish Club is honored to be featured in the WFWA newspaper, and can't wait to continue our partnership!

We collected 80+ costumes for WFWA's annual Children's Safe and Sane Halloween Party. Children of farm workers trick or treat for canned goods at the party. Wintertime is slow in work, and money that is gained is used for either heating or food. By asking for canned goods, the families are able to avoid the choice between heating or eating this winter. Thank you so much to Main Street Kids in Nevada City for donating costumes.

It has been an honor to be the president of Spanish Club for the past three years. In the words of Cesar Chavez, "Farm workers are involved in the planting and the cultivation and the harvesting of the greatest abundance of food known in this society. They bring in so much food to feed you and me and the whole country and enough food to export to other places. The ironic thing and the tragic thing is that after they make this tremendous contribution, they don’t have any money or any food left for themselves." I feel honored receive this thank you letter from WFWA on behalf of my efforts to alleviate the needs of farm workers.
