This video will really help you understand how much effort goes into making clothes. Albeit, we’ve advanced well beyond this dated process, but still worth knowing. It certainly gave me a greater appreciation for garment and textile production!

I hear guys say stuff like this all the time: I hate wearing suits. They make me sweaty and restrict my movement. The bottom line is, most of the men who say this are the ones buying suits from the ‘buy one get three free’ type stores.... The reason these suits make men feel that way is because: 1. They’re cheaply made using glue and lots of synthetic materials that seal in all the heat. This makes a man sweat profusely. A suit made with 100% natural fibers like wool, cotton and linen, will be more comfortable. And so long as it’s full canvas or at the very least half canvas, you shouldn’t be sweating as much. A deconstructed jacket (no shoulder padding, no lining and often without chest canvas) using natural fibers is even more comfortable. 2. These garments are also made to fit a wide majority of bodies, so not all of them will fit properly. Armholes, shoulders and the stomach area are all spots that can make a jacket uncomfortable, especially if these areas don’t fit correctly. Make sure the jacket shoulders fit just past your shoulder bone, that the back has just enough give, and that you can comfortably fasten the top button. A well-made suit will also have a lot of hand-stitching done at major stress points, like the armholes, to provide maximum flexibility and durability. Proper canvassing will also mold to your body over time and stay soft, while a synthetic and glued jacket moves as one piece in the chest, and won’t take shape to your body. A well-made, properly fitted suit will move with you and help keep body temperatures lower, so you can remain comfortable and dapper throughout the day. There’s a lot of subtle nuances when it comes to suits, so if you need my help, don’t hesitate to let me know.

This is my latest client, Jack! Unfortunately he didn’t want his identity revealedregardless of how good he looked. I went through his closet and helped him eliminate clothing items he didn’t need, helped him to understand what he was doing right, and gave him new ways to wear what he owns already. Then, upgraded his wardrobe to incorporate new, well-fitting made-to-measure garments (pictured in this post). Yesterday was one of the most fun appointments I ever had. @jillsutherlandphoto reached out to me and gifted a wardrobe audit session for her husband, @gratituderose (aka Keith, aka Hoon). He had a TON of amazing stuff sitting in his closet already that just needed a second/third pair of eyes on to help create new outfits.
