President Joe Biden and CSUB’s Dr. Katie O’Sullivan have at least one thing in common: a piece of the moon. Each president makes the Oval Office his own by choosing new decor. For President Biden, that includes a moon rock collected in 1972 by Apollo 17's Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan. The rock, displayed in a protective case, is on loan from NASA. Closer to home, geologist Dr. O’Sullivan has her own moon rock, which she and her graduate student Craig Hulsey use for rese...arch. Though small, the rock opens up a world of research opportunity, studying the physical character, mineralogy and geochemistry of a moon rock. CSUB is now home to a new Eddy Covariance Flux Tower, a tower that continuously monitors levels of carbon dioxide and water in the air. The tower will provide students from a variety of scientific disciplines with data they can use to research climate change. The acquisition of an Eddy Covariance Flux Tower is a very exciting development for our campus, said Dr. Jackson, Interim Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Academic Programs. This equipment measures CO2, a greenhouse gas known to negatively affect the functioning of ecosystems as well as human health. The faculty and students who use the data produced by this equipment will now have a new opportunity to contribute toward climate change research, and hopefully improve the well-being of our planet and its people. Congratulations to our graduates!!
Dr. Jay Joson, CSUB nursing lecturer and vaccine coordinator at Kern Medical, shares his experience getting the COVID-19 vaccine and why he trusts the science. Read his story at the link!
