Terrible news out of Stockton. Another senseless life is lost to gun violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the co-workers, friends, and family of fire Captain Videl "Max" Fortuna.

The NPOA would like to congratulate Officer James on successfully completing his field training program! You will now be seeing Officer James working the streets as a solo patrol Officer. The NPOA is happy to have Officer James, and we thank him for wanting to serve our great community. If you see him out in the community, don't hesitate to say hello! #novatoproud

On March 15, 2018, MCSO Deputy Ryan Zirkle made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We continue to stand with our brothers and sisters at Marin County DSA and always have Ryan, his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

A short time ago our north end units were called to reports of a dog running on the transition ramp from westbound 37 to northbound 101. Despite numerous passer...by’s stopping to try to wrangle the dog they were unable to catch him. Our officers used their dog whisperer training they picked up at Academy and were able to get ahold of the wayward pooch. No tags were found on him so our friends from Marin Humane are on their way to pick him up. Hopefully he is chipped so we can track down his owner. If you recognize this handsome pup please contact Marin Humane for information where he can be picked up.

This incident underscores the current crime trends here in Marin County. It seems Propositions 47 and 57 have only led to an increase in property crimes in our area.

Recently, the father of a Novato Police Department Explorer passed away. Our Explorer has been a dedicated member of the Novato Police Explorer Post #392 and has volunteered countless hours to serving his community. As an Explorer Advisor, I have seen first hand the commitment our Explorer has to our Explorer Post, Novato PD and the Novato Community. I ask that during this time of seasonal giving, you please consider joining the NPOA with raising money for the family as they navigate this difficult time. Thank you, NPOA President Sean Sinnott
