Do we want to burn it on our terms, where we can? Or do we want it to burn during a wildfire? -Chief Marshall Turbeville. Did you know Northern Sonoma County Fire has now completed 11 prescribed burns since November 1, 2020?
Today is the day. Starting at 9am, come get your evacuation tags the Geyserville Park N Ride on Remmel Rd., Hwy. 128/Remmel Rd. One block east of Geyserville Ave. next to the railroad tracks.
This afternoon, while on routine air patrol over the north Santa Rosa area, Henry-1’s aircrew saw a large column of smoke developing in the northern part of Son...oma County. Simultaneous to seeing the column of smoke, REDCOM dispatched Northern Sonoma County Fire District to an escaped control burn/vegetation fire in the 100 block of Artisan Circle, Geyserville. H1 responded and was the first resource to arrive on scene. H1’s aircrew provided ground units information regarding the fire’s size, speed, and direction of travel. With the aid of H1’s onboard camera/computer equipment H1 was quickly able to calculate the size of the fire was one and a half acres. Northern Sonoma County firefighters arrived on scene and made quick work in containing the fire before it reached any structures. Excellent teamwork by multiple allied public safety agencies!
Join Chief Turbeville tonight at 6pm as he discusses the Kincade Fire Documentary.
Today in Windsor, walk in vaccine clinic. No appointment needed, 5:30-7:30pm at the Huerta Gym.
Northern Sonoma County Fire is assisting the City of Healdsburg Fire Department with a vegetation fire along the Russia River just south of Memorial Bridge. The forward progress of the fire has been stopped and units will remain at scene until fully contained.

Northern Sonoma County Fire along with many other agencies are at scene of a 2 acre vegetation fire at the 8000 block of Franz Valley School Road. Units have the fire spread stopped and are working to fully control the fire. Units will remain at scene for at least a few more hours.
No sooner then the "in county upstaffing" gets released we have been called to Orange County to help with a fire. We are committed to helping those in need and know 1st hand the importance of mutual aid in California. Captain Mendez, Firefighters Wallace, Lilienthal and Martinez on Engine 6181 will be meeting 4 other engines from Sonoma to make up a strike team. We want to thank our staff and volunteers for being so dedicated.
Thank you Sonoma County for being vigilant. No new fires in Sonoma County lastnight. Continue to be vigilant and we will get through this together.
The Geyserville Sculpture Trail coordinated a wine barrel painting day. Unfortunately due to fires and other commitments we were unable to participate (plus none of us can paint very well). Luckily Emma Ziegler who's brother Nathan works for us a seasonal firefighter offered to help. She jumped at the opportunity to showcase her skills, support the Fire Department and the Geyserville Sculpture Trail. Thanks Emma for helping us out and for the amazing art work.
In addition to sending 3 fire engines to the fire in the Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Perserve, Northern Sonoma removed numerous trees blocking roads. Many of these trees have been damaged from previous large fires. When these large trees come down on rural roads in the middle of Red Flag Warning they threaten public safety by blocking potential evacuation routes. Luckily we were able to make quick work of these trees and at least get one lane open. This is a perfect example of why you need to have a plan with an evacuation route with a backup route should a road be blocked.
Ok Sonoma County, the wind is definitely here in the higher elevations and will drop to lower elevations as the night goes on. Have a go-bag ready, have a plan, be safe and stay vigilant.
In case you didn't know we are in a Red Flag Warning. We have additional staffing and ask that you stay vigilant.
The Red Flag Warning was lifted earlier then expected this morning due to favorable weather conditions. This changing weather also brought fog to most lower elevations in Sonoma County(as seen from Mt Jackson looking east towards Windsor). Unfortunately last night Northern Sonoma County Fire responded to 4 small vegetation fires in Cloverdale. All fires were smaller then 1/2 acre each and are all contained. Cal Fire is conducting an investigation into the cause. Today being t...he one year anniversary of the the start of the Kincade Fire, should serve as a reminder we aren't out of the woods yet. With anticipated Red Flag conditions possibly on Sunday through Tuesday it is important to remain vigilant. This weather event is being compared to 2017 Tubbs/Pocket and 2019 Kincade weather events. We still have 48 before this weather pattern might arrive. You have time to clean or reclean your gutters, remove dead or dying material from around your home and/or make go bag. Public Safety Power Shut offs might also impact parts of Sonoma County and people should plan for more outages then previous weather events. Are you part of a COPE (Citizens Organized to Prepare for Emergencies - COPE Northern Sonoma County )? COPE groups are a great way to get to know your neighbors, coordinate evacuations and better communicate in a time of an emergency.
Thank you Sonoma County for remaining vigilant. No new significant vegetation fires in Sonoma County over the last 24 hours. Let's all do our part and continue to be firesafe. Keep those go-bags at the ready and have a plan.
Stay vigilant Sonoma County. Our upstaffing continues through at least Friday morning.
Ok people, you know the drill by now. Have a plan, have a go bag ready and be vigilant. What are two things you have in your go bag that other people might not have thought of? Please leave a comment and let us (and everyone) know.
We have received numerous reports of smoke within the Walbridge burn scar. These smokes are nothing to worry about and Cal Fire has crews out hunting them down when they pop up.
