Today marks the Navy's 245th Birthday. The central theme of this year's 245th birthday and heritage week will be "Victory at Sea," which encompasses the Navy's efforts in battle during World War II in the Pacific Theater. We gather in celebration of this occasion to enhance a greater appreciation of our Navy heritage, and to provide a positive influence toward pride and professionalism in the naval service. We also took the time to recognize our BJOQ, JSOQ, and SOQ for the past two quarters. BZ shipmates! Your hard work and dedication to the Navy is greatly appreciated!!

Good Afternoon Team, I attached two very good reads, one of them being from PHOP and the other being the Lifelink newsletter I receive being the SPC. Suicide Prevention isn't always the easiest topic for everyone to talk about but it's especially important that we're all aware of the signs and symptoms of suicide during this virtual environment. A lot of people right now are feeling more isolated and not having that interpersonal connection we get being at work every day tak...es it toll. With all of that being said I hope that all of you know that I am always here for each of you, including our SELRES family. My door is always open and I know that the same goes for all of you, stay safe everybody! V/R, HM2(NAC/AW) Ansel, Timothy
September’s Drill Bits. Read up!
**PAY RELATED INFO** A Presidential Memorandum was issued recently to temporarily defer Social Security tax withholdings through the end of 2020. Plan ahead before spending the extra money in your paycheck. The deferred taxes will need to be paid back between Jan 1 and April 30, 2021. More information can found about the deferral on the DFAS website:... https://no-click.mil/ Military Members - Effective for the September mid-month pay, DFAS will temporarily defer the withholding of the 6.2% Social Security tax if the monthly rate of basic pay is less than $8,666.66. If the monthly rate of basic pay is at or above this threshold, the social security tax withholding will not be affected by the temporary deferral. Military members can use their August or prior LES as a reference for their typical Social Security tax amount. The Social Security tax is labeled as FICA-SOC SECURITY on the LES and is calculated as 6.2% of basic pay. Civilian Employees For the pay period ending September 12, 2020, DFAS will temporarily defer the 6.2% OASDI tax withholding if wages, subject to OASDI, are $4,000 or less in any given pay period. Employees can use the Taxable Wages on their LES as a good reference for whether they will have their OASDI tax deferred. The OASDI deduction is found on the LES under the deductions tab/section. Military members and civilian employees are not eligible to opt-out of the deferral if their Social Security wages fall within the stated limits. The deferral will happen automatically.
