Welcome, Tamu to our Summer Intensive Faculty! Tamu Ortenzio has over 25 years of experience in ballet technique, pointe, choreography and arts management. Tamu Ortenzio is an American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher in levels Pre-Primary through 5 of the ABT National Teacher Training Curriculum and Progressing Ballet Technique, a supplemental strengthening program for dancers. Additionally, Tamu is a certified trainer through American Council on Education. She has traine...d, mentored, and coached students now in prominent schools and companies including School of American Ballet, The Julliard School, The Joffery Ballet School, Nashville Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Rock School for Dance Education, State University of New York at Purchase, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, University of Arizona, to name a few. Introducing Julianne Spratlin! We can't wait to have her at NCDC for our Summer Intensive! Julianne Spratlin received her training at the Atlanta School of Ballet under the direction of Tom Pazik and Robert Barnett. She continued her studies at both the School of American Ballet and Boston Ballet. Ms. Spratlin danced with the Atlanta Ballet for eight years under the direction of John McFall. She performed principal roles in works by Balanchine, as well as the lead roles in... many story ballets. She also worked with many contemporary choreographers and created roles in ballets by John McFall, Michael Pink, Lila York, David Parsons, Donald Byrd and Stanton Welch. In 2002, Ms. Spratlin joined the Joffrey Ballet. During her time there she danced a wide range of principal roles in the Joffrey repertoire to critical acclaim, including works by Ashton, Cranko, Balanchine, Kylian, Tharp, Joffrey and Arpino. In 2004, she was chosen Chicagoan of the Year by the Chicago Tribune. In 2007, Ms. Spratlin joined the San Francisco Ballet, where she danced principal and soloist roles in ballets by Robbins, Taylor and Balanchine and worked to create ballets with choreographers Caniparoli, Welch, Kudelka, Wheeldon and Adam. In the spring of 2010, she was honored to be a guest artist with the Estonian National Ballet, performing with SFB principal, Tiit Helimets. Ms. Spratlin joined the Milwaukee Ballet in 2010 as a principal dancer. Ms. Spratlin also had the great honor of being named one of 2011's "25 To Watch", by Dance Magazine and fellow artist, Tiit Helimets. Ms. Spratlin began her teaching career at the Atlanta Ballet Center for Dance Education, teaching and coaching preprofessional division students, many of whom went on to join Atlanta Ballet and other professional companies. During her time in Chicago, she taught at the Lou Conte Dance Studio of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In San Francisco, Ms. Spratlin taught at The Ballet Studio since 2010 and became TBS Associate Artistic Director. See more

Welcome Irene Liu to our Summer Intensive faculty! Irene Liu received her classical ballet and contemporary training under the guidance of Viktor Kabaniaev and Tina Bohnstedt. A critically acclaimed dancer in the SF Bay Area and Los Angeles County, she has performed in various festivals and projects: West Wave Dance (San Francisco, CA), Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival (Palm Desert, CA), Celebrate Dance (Los Angeles, CA), and Laguna Dance Festival (Laguna Beach, CA...). Ms. Liu has a BFA in Dance Performance from UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts, where she received the William J. Gillespie scholarship and performed various works by the faculty including Jodie Gates and Tong Wang. During her time in Orange County, Ms. Liu taught at Dmitri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy (Laguna Woods, CA) where she helped prepare students for various competitions and performances. Upon moving to the SF Bay Area, Ms. Liu staged Kabaniaev’s Series of UnRelated Events on Sacramento Ballet. In 2014, she began teaching at Westlake School for the Performing Arts (Daly City, CA), where she later took over the professional ballet division in 2018. Starting tomorrow, NCDC will be holding a 3-week long virtual dancer boot camp for Conservatory Division students. Boot camp runs M-F for 1.5 hours a day.
