Bones don’t move without muscles. You don’t move without muscles. Muscles pull to move you. What pulls them? Brains ___ The secret is to change the brain. What...’s one really fast way to do that? Change what it senses. That changes it’s options for movement ___ Sensory drives motor. Give yourself more sensory input. Actually it’s not about more, it’s about DIFFERENT. More doesn’t alway mean better. ___ That’s why simply tapping around your ankle joints or putting your bare feet on the ground can make such a profound difference in how you move and pain you feel anywhere on the body. More input. Different input ___ No matter what form of therapy or movement correctives you choose you are always practicing neurology. The 2 posterior rotator cuff muscles are the infraspinatus and teres minor, synergists for external rotation. Problems occur when the posterior deltoid becomes ...neurologically underactive and the teres and infra have to compensate. It can be both or one, but that's what NKT testing allows the practitioner to do, determine the exact nature of the relationship in order to release and activate the correct muscles. A common finding would be an overworking infraspinatus and an underworking posterior delt. This can also cause pain in the posterior neck muscles. See more

The supraspinatus is the most problematic of the rotator cuff muscles because it passes under the AC joint. This is the muscle that gets talked about in the new...s when an athlete has shoulder surgery. Problems arise with the supraspinatus when it compensates for larger muscles of humeral abduction, like the middle deltoid or long head of the biceps. NKT testing commonly finds the supraspinatus overworking and the mid delt underworking in cases of supraspinatus tendonitis. This can also cause the upper trapezius and the lateral neck flexors to overwork as well, leading to neck pain. See more

Sciatica is a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms of radiating pain in one leg with or without associated neurological deficits on examination Most patie...nts improve over time with conservative treatment including exercise, manual therapy, and pain management Imaging is not required to confirm the diagnosis and is only requested if pain persists for more than 12 weeks or the patient develops progressive neurological deficits Urgently refer patients with signs of urinary retention or decreased anal sphincter tone, which suggest cauda equina syndrome Surgery is an option if symptoms do not improve after 6-8 weeks of conservative treatment. It may speed up recovery but the effect is similar to conservative care at one year https://www.bmj.com/content/367/bmj.l6273.full
