Happy Chinese New Year! :D
They're in! Just got our first totes today. Get the butter ready! #dungenesscrab #crabseason #norcalseafood #seafood #fishmonger
We're updating our social media pages and came across some complaints and stuffs regarding our customer service and facilities. As most of you know, we're not a typical fish market with pretty windows and displays. Nor is our customer service anywhere near a five star hotel. We're just a mom-and-pop seafood warehouse who decided to give the general public an opportunity to access and purchase live seafood at a wholesale price. A couple of folks have asked this question in the... past so we've added it to our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website: "Why don’t you have a store front with nice customer service? We’re not a shiny, fashionable, trendy sort of shop. Nor are we a place where you want to wear stilettos or fancy wool suit when you come visit (highly don’t recommend this). We’re a working warehouse providing live seafood to our community which means our folks are running around prepping for shipments to go out. The lack of a fancy store front and peppy customer service folks means lower seafood costs for our customers. Please be aware this isn’t your typical supermarket experience. Apologies in advance if we come off as rude, we’re just usually busy. Rudeness definitely not intended. If you need something and our workers seem to be ignoring you (they're likely just focused on getting their products packed), just speak up politely and say that you’re interested in purchasing some seafood. They’ll either point you to the sales office or someone will come and help ya. We’re fishmongers, not mind readers. Thanks for your patience, understanding, and support." We're a no-frills type of place and we just try to keep it real. Thank you for all your support and understanding. :)
Wheeeee~ Crabbing season is open! https://www.mercurynews.com//dungeness-crab-season-can-fi/
New Years is done. Check. Store hours have been updated. Check. Brain still mostly functioning. Check (I think). Now for a few updates.... Vendors and wholesale customers: Please continue to reach out to your salesperson as per your usual means. For all our individual customers: Our warehouse hours have changed to 7:00am to 11:00am PST for walk-ins and pick-ups. Please be sure to wear a mask if you come by. Dungeness Crab: The season just opened up and our boats are getting geared up and on their way. We should have some in stock by the end of this week so check back with the office on Thurs or Fri. To all our boats, fishermen/ladies, and drivers: We appreciate everything you do. Thank you for sticking by us even during these tough times. Stay warm. Stay dry. Stay safe. :)
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! Here's hoping for a better new year. :)
Heya folks! Christmas is nearing. If you're looking for crabs, king crab, lobsters, oysters, or fish, please give the office a call a few days before you need it. It'll give us a chance to make sure we have everything for ya. And just a reminder, we only work with live seafood. Nothing frozen or cooked at our warehouse. Only the best tasting seafood for ya. Remember to wear a mask if you're coming over :).
I prefer my oysters raw with a bit of red wine vinegar, but I've had some delicious bbq'd/baked oysters with a chili mixture. How do you like your oysters? https://www.thespruceeats.com/easy-butter-and-herb-baked-oy
Happy Thanksgiving! From our family to yours. :)
Hey Everyone! Jenny here. Sorry for the lack of updates and radio silence. I moved to Dublin, Ireland to work on my masters degree in Art, but I'm still helping the family business with maintaining the Facebook page and website. Now that I'm settled into Dublin and fully recovered from surgery, I'm able to post again! I'll be updating with Nor-Cal news and info from the folks when stuff comes up. Hope y'all are staying safe. I know the holidays are coming up so do give the sales office a call if you need to place some large orders. Any plans or yummy recipes for the holidays you want to share? And thank you for all the new likes! <3 Stay safe out there and I'll be sure to post some pics of Dublin Bay as well as the huge razor clams I've been coming across when I'm out wandering around.
Been working on the webpage and getting our product list up. http://www.norcalseafood.com
Jenny here~ Apologies for the delays folks. I've been recovering from surgery so it has been quiet on my end. For questions regarding pricing please go ahead and call our office at 510-532-7823. If you'd like a product list, please email [email protected] or message me here. I'll get the product list on the website soon enough since I can't move much anyways. Everything at the office is still up and running. Masks are in use downstairs. The office where we do all the paperwork is practicing physical distancing. We ask that if you come and pick up product to please wear a mask before entering the sales office or wait outside. Thanks!
Just wanted to let our customers and friends know that we're safe. Our warehouse isn't in the downtown Oakland area so we're not affected by the protests. Stay safe y'all and stay strong. <3
Hi everyone! Hope everyone made the best of Memorial Day weekend. I've got a few updates for our individual customers (meaning this doesn't apply to our regular wholesale customers): We're no longer doing personal order deliveries but we are still open to the public. Please call, walk-in, or email [email protected] regarding the product you're looking for. Phone and walk-in are the easiest cause emails and online inquiries might be delayed. After your order is confirme...d, come by during business hours and one of our guys will load it into your car. :) A few things to remember: - We specialize in live seafood. So please don't stick your finger into the clams or oysters. It does indeed hurt (I know from personal experience thanks to younger me). - Our product list remains the same but the prices and availability change daily. I'll get that product list on our new website soon. - Make sure you have some extra cardboard or tarp. We do provide a large clear bag to help prevent water from leaking out but sometimes water magically escapes against our wishes. - Cash only. Thanks for your support and understanding!
Thank you to our Veterans for your service, dedication, and sacrifices. Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day, everyone!
We've got our sales email up and running. James, our sales guy, and Hubert, the general manager who does everything and eats all the cookies I make, oversees the sales-related email account so please feel free to email us at [email protected] if you've got questions and order requests. Here's a picture I took of the Mediterranean Sea when I was living in France where I was working as an artist while helping the family business out remotely. The seafood in the south of France was delicious. The sole is amazing but the wide selection of oysters were my favorite. Alaskan King Crab is considered a rare treat out there and they can only get frozen legs. You wouldn't believe how much they cost.
Hope everyone had a great weekend and a Happy Easter for those who celebrate it. Just wanted to let everyone know that if you're interested in ordering seafood and doing a curbside pick up, please call, message, or email us for this week's prices and availability prior to ordering. Prices are updated on Mondays and may change over the course of the week but we'll let you know if there's a change. :) Easiest way to place an order is to call in or send us a message. You can also email [email protected] and one of our guys will get back to you. Here's a pic of some lovely lobsters from last week that went out to some friends of friends in Oakland.
Oh man, here's a picture of young Dad (a.k.a. Kevin) back in 1992 on him and mum's fishing boat docked at the Berkeley Marina (Berkeley, California). Did you know, before Mom and Dad opened up Nor-Cal Seafood in 1997, they were fishermen? That's right, Dad and Mum both fished and crabbed. I remember helping them tie hooks onto lines, and the colorful buoys sitting in the backyard. We used to sell the fish at the local flea and farmers markets prior to opening up the warehouse. :)
To the friends and friends of friends who've been sharing our post, thanks for all the interest! Please be patient with us while we're getting information together for you all. ^^
Hi everyone! You've all talked to Mom (Kathy) or Dad (Kevin) at some point in time if you're familiar with Nor-Cal. So I thought I'd introduce you to the second generation of Lee's helping out the family business. I'm Jenny, oldest daughter of Kevin and Kathy, and I've been with Nor-Cal on and off since we opened, so seafood is very much a part of my life. I've done just about everything at the shop from packing and loading to drier jobs like working in the office, helping M...um with accounts and operations. Now, I'm overseeing and streamlining transportation/logistics and getting our digital presence up and running. Prior to the family business, I spent several years as a business developer in the video game industry. If you ever needed help with the books, invoices, or fish tickets, then you've worked with Eric. He's usually on the back end dealing with accounts, admin, and tech-related stuff. Eric graduated from UC Berkeley in 2016 with a Computer Science degree. And although he's talented with computers, he's using his tech skills to improve/optimize things at Nor-Cal. If there's anything we can do to improve invoice delivery or with fish tickets, he's definitely the guy to poke. Together, we're trying to improve and update things at Nor-Cal while trying to convince the family that they're good ideas (like having a Facebook page and other social media presence). We also try to respond to your messages and inquiries on FB and email. I tried to look for more serious pictures of me and Eric but there just weren't any.
Nor-Cal Seafood is still open as we're considered an essential business providing seafood to the markets and restaurants. For those of you who are interested, you can find the details here about the essential businesses allowed to operate: https://covid19.ca.gov//EssentialCriticalInfrastructureWor ... Stay safe and take care. <3
It's the holidays! If you're looking for seafood, please give our office a call and ask our sales guys about what's available. Remember our prices vary day by day due to supply and demand. :)
Happy 4th of July ! :)
