Hello NOJCNC Members: Obviously these are unprecedented times and the New Orleans Jazz Club of Northern California, like all organizations, has had to adjust to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board decided to cancel the March meeting, even before the mandatory shelter-in-place directive from state and local authorities, out of caution for our members, including many who fall into the high-risk category. With the ban on gatherings extended until at least early May, we h...ave canceled the April meeting also. Because no one knows the true scope or duration of this epic health disaster, members should plan for the possibility that we will have to cancel the May and June meetings also. We will post the latest updates at www.NOJCNC.org and at https://www.facebook.com/nojcnc/. The history of Traditional Jazz is full of adversity and loss, but it manages to continue, in large part thanks to the people who love it and preserve it, but also because the music itself reflects our lives -- the highs and lows, the joys and blues. This club will continue doing the job mandated in our charter -- to preserve the music and share it -- and we look forward to seeing all of you when we get past this particular adversity. Thank you for your continued support. The Board New Orleans Jazz Club of Northern California
Leon Oakley and the gang finishing the night with "Weary Blues."
Leon Oakley and Friends of the Blue 5 packed the club today and didn't disappoint. Highlights included solid tuba by Clint Baker's son, Riley.
Had some fun yesterday with the Zinfandel Stompers. Rich Owens let me put a GoPro camera next to his keyboard.
Tuba humor for International Tuba Day (borrowed from Chris Pietsch at University of Idaho): A young child returned from his first music lesson on the tuba. "How did it go?" asked his father. "Great," said the child. "I learned how to play a 'C'."... The next week the child took another lesson and his father asked about the lesson. "Terrific," said the child. "I learned how to play a 'G'." The following week the child didn't come home. The father was frantic with worry when the child didn't come home until 2:00 AM. "Where in heck have you been ," shouted the father. "I had a gig!!" answered the son. See more
