North Loburn Equestrian Centre : DRESSAGE for EVERYONE We know this is not the news you have all been waiting for, but we have reached the decision not to restart NLEC Dressage competitions following the enforced suspension due to COVID19. Alastair and I have both found ourselves involved with new opportunities - I am working part time teaching at Ara and Alastair recently joined Environment Canterbury to take his farm environmental career in a new direction. We our both enj...oying time to ourselves, each other and spending time with our hobbies again. A typical monthly competition takes 40 hours work, mostly in the week before and that does not include the many judges and volunteers that we depend on to make it work. We know that a lot of people get a huge amount of pleasure taking back and the feedback is humbling, so the decision was not made lightly and we have been discussing between ourselves for months. We would like to thank the many, many people who have given up their time and or sponsorship to make NLEC Dressage such a success over the past 13 years. We have thoroughly enjoyed the journey together and being able to provide Dressage for Everyone. NLEC made a great team. Thank you. Time for new adventures. Elaine and Alastair

OK our plan is this with the masks - While we wait for our Kiwiana themed prints to arrive, we will have some other prints available both in child and adult siz...es - After much discussion with many, and talking with people in Melbourne making them, we have decided on this style - Price will be confirmed later today - but $1 from every mask will be donated to The Christchurch Kidney Society!! ( Jo Houghton) Kidney disease, kidney failure or dialysis isn't a "cool" illness when it comes to funding for these support services, yet your kidney does 5 - yes 5 jobs!! Without a kidney you die - dialysis is just a interim treatment until you get a transplant or die - so we want to support this amazing organisation that cares for both kids and adults here in Canterbury - Its very exciting to see all the cool fabrics!! Catch up later tonight with "School Formal Photos" - today its make up hair collection of flowers - Maddies date has arrived from Nelson - phew organising a last minute "you are well enough to go" to the dance is exhausting! to the

On a scale from 1-10 how much are you missing competitions right now?! Have a look at this lovely review from the North Canterbury Dressage Group North Loburn ...Equestrian Centre with the photos supplied by Dannie Armstrong Photography. Congratulations to the Summer series champions. We love getting results from the local area groups - it's great publicity for these events. When the lockdown is lifted we hope to have area groups celebrating the return in our magazine.

*** APPROPRIATE DISTANCES WHEN RIDING *** I have seen discussion about what should be appropriate distances apart when riding and have had quite a few messages ...so I thought I would attempt to answer this based on the best evidence available. Taking the work of Blocken et al. (2020) who looked at particle spread for people in different activities, I've used their data to estimate some appropriate MINIMUM distances for when riding either in-line or side by side.

UPDATED 24th March at 5:20pm First and foremost, we want to reassure you all that we are an essential service and as such, will remain open to care for your cat.... This includes providing essential foods and medicines. We ask all clients to please phone us on 03 595 1184 and not show up to the clinic without an appointment. While we will remain a functioning vet clinic, the way we do things here will change to ensure we stay within the guidelines provided to us and keep our patients, our staff and you, our clients, safe. This situation is rapidly changing, and new decisions are being made as we go by the associations we are guided by so our protocols may change frequently. Below are the protocols we have currently put in place: We will remain available to you and your cat if you need us 24/7. Please call us as usual. We will be functioning as a ‘closed’ clinic this means that clients will not be entering the building. To enable us to do this, we ask that everyone calls us first, please do not drop into the clinic without phoning in advance. Consultations: - Please call first if you need an appointment. Our nurses will obtain a brief history from you over the phone and book an appointment time for one of our vets to call you and carry out a tele-consultation with you if possible. If we feel that your cat needs to be seen urgently when you first call, we will ask you to bring your cat to the clinic. Please call us once you are in the car park (alternatively you can ring the doorbell) to let us know you are here. We will then ask you to take your cat to the front door and return to your car and wait. One of our nurses will be waiting for your cat at the door. We will examine your cat inside while you wait in your car and then our vet will call you to discuss their plan. - Please do not be alarmed if one of our staff meets you in protective wear. - At this stage all non-essential consultations will be postponed until further notice. We will, wherever possible, take payment from you over the phone. If you do need to use the EFTPOS terminal, rest assured, we will disinfect this in-between uses. We will be calling any booked consultations that are non-essential to postpone. Surgeries: - All elective and non-essential surgical procedures will be postponed until further notice. Surgical procedures that cannot wait will still be carried out as normal. We will be contacting any elective surgeries that need to be postponed. Food and medication supplies: - We will be able to provide you with your cat’s food and medications just in slightly different ways. Please call us with your order, do not drop in. We will take your payment over the phone, then prepare this for you and arrange a time for you to collect it. As with consultations we ask that you call us from your car when you arrive in the car park. We are unable to accept cash payments at this time. Stocking up on supplies: - We ask that you please restrain from doing this. Provided orders do not greatly increase, our suppliers will cope and we will not run out of stock. However, if some people start to buy unnecessary quantities, they may run out and other patients will not be able to get the food or medications they need. Our instinct is to prepare for the worst, however, please consider other people’s cats when doing this. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding and urge you to call us if you have any questions or concerns. Please rest assured we are here for your cat despite these difficult times. Stay safe everyone, From the team at The Cat Vet
