Happy 7th Birthday to my sweet, little ladybug! 7 years ago today I woke up to my water breaking 6 weeks before my due date. My doctor told me I was going to have a cinco de mayo baby and he’d be back to check me later. A few hours later turned into we’re having this baby now. Two very long weeks in the NICU to fatten her up because she was a tiny 4 lbs 10 oz. Life has been amazing since and I love spending time with my science loving, roller coaster riding, crafty, video gamer, fashionista, French toast loving daughter. Happy Birthday sweet girl!

This patient is a good friend and called me on a Sunday morning to say their veneer had broken. These are not my veneers so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was definitely surprised by how much cement I had to power through with the microetcher to get to the porcelain. I treated the veneer with an acid etch, put it in the ultrasonic to remove debris, placed silane and heated in an oven and then cemented with Optibond FL and heated composite. I’m pleasantly surprised how well this turned out. Because of the large amount of cement inside I assumed when I cemented it that the piece I bonded back on would leave a depressed, detectable lip next to the piece that remained but I tried to stop pushing it in towards the tooth when the margins seemed flush. #estheticdentist #veneerrepair

The existing composite restorations on the back molar and the last premolar were sub all the way around and were trapping stain. We removed the fillings and built them up for better contour and better color. #estheticdentist #inspiro

I was feeling pretty guilty that I didn’t take my kids anywhere for spring break this year so we did an impromptu trip to the central coast for two days. The kids enjoyed the jacuzzi while I caught up on some reading. #estheticdentist #biomimeticdentistry #neverstoplearning #alwaysastudent

When this patient came in we noted they had large cavities on a few teeth as indicated by the radiographs we took. The first photo is what the tooth looked like clinically. Swipe to see what the tooth looked like when I accessed the decay initially and stained with caries detecting dye. Once the tooth was opened up to get a clean ring of dentin there was still decay on the floor of the tooth but I was already 5mm down so I elected to leave it so we didn’t cause the need for a root canal. The last photo is the tooth fully restored. This patient is young so I am hopeful that they will have no issues since I used the best protocols at my disposal to ensure a good, strong bond to the tooth. #estheticdentist #OptibondFL #IDS #Inspiro

Replaced this leaking, old amalgam filling with a tooth colored composite. I had no idea how to match stain that dark so I used a dark brown and left it at that. #estheticdentist #inspiro

This patient has white decalcification on the lateral due to not brushing above the bracket when braces were on. The white spots can stay white or they can cavitate and turn into decay (the brown spot). Cleaned up the decalcification and decay and restored it back to what it looked like before the brackets. #estheticdentist #ilovemyjob #brushaboveandbeloworthobrackets

As a dentist, I am required to take 50 hours of continuing education classes every 2 years. Over the last 2 years I have accumulated over 300 hours!!! I already have my next two years planned out and I know more classes will pop up that I end up adding to my schedule. It’s not easy to get the time away from my practice as a solo practitioner and there are only a handful of other dentists in my town that are willing to see my emergencies while I am away. It’s also hard to ...be away from my little ones and make sure my husband, who travels for work, can be home that week to make sure things run smoothly while I’m gone. It’s definitely not easy to manage all of these things but if I just kept going to the same old classes all of the time I would only be learning the same thing and it’s true when people say you don’t know what you don’t know. I want to be the best, I want to deliver my patients the best work and I want to learn from the best. The last class I attended was with Pascal Magne who is known as the father of biomimetic dentistry. Another great part of going to high caliber CE classes is meeting like minded dentists who I continue to keep in touch with. #estheticdentist #neverstoplearning #studentforlife #pascalmagne See more

Quick switch out of an old composite that was leaking with a new one. Used existing anatomy to dictate the new filling so the restoration blends in seamlessly with the tooth. #estheticdentist #ilovemyjob

We placed two new crowns on this patient. Some gingival recession resulted in marginal decay around both teeth. We probed to make sure we would get predictable results and swapped out the metal/ceramic crowns for zirconia. #estheticdentist #zirconia #metalfree

Back in Seattle for another week long class. These classes are amazing but long. So from 7 am to 6 pm I am 100% focused and then on my lunch I get to call my babies for a little video fun. Laughing with them is the highlight of my day while I am gone. #koiscenter #alwayskeeplearning #studentforlife #tobeakidagain

Sometimes small changes make a big difference. This patient complained that she showed too much gum tissue on her right lateral and that when she told other people they thought she was crazy. She was right though. Compared to her left lateral the gingival covered more of her tooth. With a simple 5 minute procedure, we removed some bone through the sulcus without any need for sutures. I noticed that the incisal embrasure on the left lateral was closed compared to her natural embrasure on the right side so I opened that up with a bur to make it more youthful and symmetrical. (See black arrow). These two modifications took less than 10 minutes. #estheticdentist #transsulcularcrownlengthening #koistrained

This patient didn’t like the shape of their laterals. We had them go through Invisalign to allow us to increase the width of them so we could bond back a better shape. They also had a little wear on the upper left canine so we added some composite to the edge to retip it. I loved the way this case turned out and the patient was super happy. It’s amazing how a little tooth colored filling material can fill out a smile and make it more esthetically pleasing. #dentalbonding #estheticdentist #cosmedent #theaacd

With temperatures in the 100+ range everyday for the last 4 weeks it’s no surprise this tooth broke at the hand of a frozen drumstick. I freehanded this one and the patient loved that I continued the stained fracture line down the tooth to make it look more realistic. #estheticdentist #AACD #dentalbonding #natural

This patient had lived their entire life with discolored/mottled teeth. Another dentist tried to cover it up with composite to make the color more even but it just made the teeth look dull. Minimally invasive veneer preps allowed us to keep the shape but change/mask the color of the underlying tooth. The lab did a great job keeping the restorations life like with some translucency at the edge. I love how this case turned out and made a life changing impact on our patient’s confidence in their smile. #veneers #estheticdentist #minimallyinvasive #confidentsmile

I absolutely love being a mother to these two amazing kids. For me, being a dentist and owning my own business comes with a lot of working mom guilt. I’m slowly trying to get over that. I know there is value when mom’s work outside of the home and hopefully they see how hard I work at the office and how hard I work at home for them. #workingmom #estheticdentist #balance

These teeth had a lot of chalky characterizations. Mimicking those same characterizations while bonding the broken tooth made this a rewarding case. #estheticdentist #cosmedent #bonding

This break is a result of a baseball accident in high school. Fixed a few years ago and it broke again at the hands of a pork chop! #estheticdentist #cosmedent

I love the way this case turned out. This patient wasn’t having any pain so we pushed treatment back until after we reopened. The decay was deep but we were not in the nerve so hopefully no root canal will be needed. Would be a shame to ruin all our hard work!

Just scored some important PPE for our team. Who’s ready to get some dental work done!
