Leading nominations at this year's Golden Globes for Netflix was Aaron Sorkin’s "The Trial of The Chicago 7," produced by #NYFAAlum Shivani Rawat! The film, nominated for Best Picture, is based on the infamous 1969 trial in which seven individuals faced multiple charges including conspiracy after counterculture protests took place at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Last week, #NYFAAlum and prolific writer & director Antonio Campos participated in a lively and engaging virtual Q&A with #NYFA students and alumni! Tova Laiter..., Director of the NYFA Q&A-list Series, moderated this event, held right after Netflix's premiere earlier in the month of Campos' latest movie, 'The Devil All The Time.' Campos spellbound our students with insights on his casting process, as well as his preferred timeline when working on a project from beginning to end, offering sage advice for a Zoom room full of aspiring actors & storytellers. A rousing group of #NYFA students, faculty & staff from all US campuses (New York, Los Angeles, and South Beach) participated in a "Rock the Vote Virtual Rally"... this week. The Rally included special guest, Tony-nominated actor Daphne Rubin-Vega (Broadway’s RENT, Les Misérables, The Rocky Horror Show), who shared stories of her immigrant family background, becoming a U.S citizen, and the imperative to vote. NYFA’s Rock The Vote efforts include a Zoom room every Tuesday that offers voter registration and mail-in ballot assistance for NYFA students, faculty & staff.
