Dear NHOS members, I hope you all had a safe 4th of July and that you and your family continue to be well! And, happy summer of 2020! I urge all our members to respond to Laura Perry to renew annual membership dues. Please see the detailed information Laura has provided for renewal below.... The NHOS board of directors came up with the brilliant idea of holding the August meeting remotely using the Zoom app. Please make sure you install the Zoom app on your cell phone or tablet or laptop or your desktop computer. It’s pretty easy, but if you’re not familiar with it, sign up early so you can feel comfortable with it. Zoom Video Communications is available at zoom.us. We will provide the Meeting ID to join our Zoom meeting in our August Newsletter. Since we are going have hot summer days ahead, our orchids need additional shade and frequent watering to prevent dehydration. Orchid nurseries are offering mail order so you can still add new plants to your collection. We are in the process of picking a theme for the upcoming February show. Hope we all will have a wonderful orchid show in 2021. Also, this month we welcome a new Webmaster to our team: Preston Tunnicliff. He can be reached at [email protected]. We look forward to working with you, Preston. Take care and be safe!

Dear NHOS members, I hope you and your family are safe and well. I want to begin by thanking each of you for patiently waiting for our monthly meetings and other orchid events to re-open. Our membership Chairman, Laura Perry, is reminding all the mem- bers to renew their annual member- ship dues. See Membership Corner for details. Thank you, Laura. Due to current COVID 19 situation, our banquet event committee has decided to cancel our annual banquet for this year in July.... I was informed that Costa Mesa Senor Center is closed until further notice and no date has been given as to when the Senior Center will be open. I am hoping our members find time to take care of their orchids since most of us are staying at home. I just bought some orchid bark and perlite from Orange County Farm Supply last week, and I’m planning to repot some overgrown cymbidium, den- drobium and cattleya orchids. As we go forward, we will be sure to keep you updated, and know that we always value your questions, ideas and feedback. Take care and be safe! Winn Winmaw NHOS President Membership Corner: With all that is going on, it is still time to think about dues. They are due the first of July. We usually start at the June meeting, but this will have to do. Dues are the same: Single is $20.00 and Double (two people at the same address) is $25.00. Please send to me, Laura Perry: 1412 Priscilla Lane, Newport Beach, 92660. My phone number is 949- 642-4148, if you have any questions. Hope all is well with all of you. Did you know? Orchids Have The Smallest Seeds in the World The size of an orchid seed is super tiny around the size of a particle of dust. Because of this, it can take years for an orchid to fully bloom from seeds.
