Happy New Year! It's Friday and you know what that means... Floral Friday! It has been quite chilly lately and the sweet alyssum flower is a great choice in this winter weather! The scientific name is lobularia maritima, other common names are sweet alison and just alyssum. The alyssum is an annual plant that can grow from 2 - 12 inches in height. The flowers have four rounded petals with a sweet honey-like aroma. They can be found in beautiful shades of white, pink, rose-re...d, lilac and violet. These flowers are common on sandy beaches and dunes but can also grow on fields, walls and slopes. Check out pictures of the sweet alyssum flower below!

Happy Floral Friday! On this special day, we want to say THANK YOU to all of those who have served in the Armed Forces as well as those who have fallen fighting for our country. Veterans Day is a very special day in which we honor those who have been brave enough to protect our country and those who are still serving today. Thank you for your service and thank you to the families of all the veterans across the nation. Happy Veterans Day.

Happy Floral Friday! November has begun and pumpkin season is in full effect! Pumpkins are a great decoration as a jack-o-lantern on Halloween or as a beautiful table setting for a Thanksgiving feast. However, these plants are good for more than just an autumn display. Pumpkins are highly nutritional, a great source of vitamin C, beta-carotene, fiber and potassium. One half cup of cooked pumpkin seeds fulfills the daily need for vitamin A. Pumpkins prefer a moist, rich soi...l and lots of sunlight. Pumpkin vines grow aggressively and can span across a lot of ground. Pumpkins should be spaced about 5 feet apart to ensure enough room for growth. They need generous watering when flowers and fruits are forming. A drip system is a good way to water pumpkins so that the water reaches the base of vines directly and misses the foliage. You will know when pumpkins are ripe and ready to harvest when the vines die back and the leaves shrivel. The fruits change from green to yellow to a bright sunset orange, which is how we are used to seeing them around Halloween time. When cutting a pumpkin from the vine it is best to leave several inches of stem to avoid rotting. Happy first week of November and enjoy your Floral Friday!

Happy Floral Friday! With its yellow, brown and orange colors, the sunflower is a beautiful flower to be used in Fall displays this time of year. The common name sunflower refers to the annual species, Helianthus annuus. It is referred to as a sunflower because the petals and center of the flower resemble the sun. Sunflowers are typically tall flowers and can group up to 10 feet tall! While sunflowers are in their growth stage, they will tilt towards the sun during the day f...or optimum sunlight. This shifting stops once the flowers have begun to bloom. Sunflowers have rough, hairy stems and bright yellow golden petals that make for a striking site. Sunflowers are also an important source of food. Sunflower oil is a healthy vegetable oil that is used in many household baking items. Sunflower seeds are also a tasty snack and healthy additive to many food items. Check out these pictures of sunflowers below!

Some of our Sansei Gardens and New Image ladies had the chance to attend an awesome event called, Ladies in the Green! This is an annual event, hosted by #SiteOne, that is a fun-filled, educational opportunity for women in the landscaping industry. Our ladies attended seminars, had hands-on training with an irrigation system, and with the help of #Cheeriodicals even made care packages for the patients of Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas. #Cheeriodicals is a charity group th...at delivers care packages to individuals, hospitals and other charity groups to spread cheer. Ladies in the Green is a great event for team-bonding, character building and more information about the landscaping industry!

Happy Floral Friday! The lily is a beautiful and simple flower that is well known among the northern hemisphere. Many other plants have the name lily in their common name but are not related to true lilies, or Lilium which is the scientific name. Lilies grow from bulbs with large prominent flowers, often times with a pleasant fragrant. They can be found in all different shades of white, yellow, orange, pink, red and purple. Some of the flowers have beautiful designs on the petals, which resemble spots or a stroke from a paint brush. Lilies are a late-spring or summer flower and grow best in sun or partial shade.
