True or False: "You should stop flossing if your gums bleed." False! Chances are that the reason your gums are bleeding while flossing is due to inflammation. If bacteria and plaque get stuck between the teeth where your toothbrush can't reach, bacteria will build up and cause inflammation and bleeding. This is a sign that you should be flossing more. Once you make it a daily habit, this will go away over time!

Fun fact: Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body. But that doesn't mean it's invulnerable! Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily to avoid cavities. Also, don't use your teeth to open packages! That's what scissors are for!!

Q: "I chipped a tooth! What do I do!?!?" A: Don't panic! If you crack, chip, or knock out a tooth, the first thing to do is to try and stay calm and give us a call. We'll walk you through the next steps, but you'll want to slow down any bleeding with gauze or a clean cloth. If you can find the chip or lost tooth, recover it and gently rinse it off with tap water and store it in a container of cold milk to keep it moist.... When you arrive at our office, we'll do everything we can to save your tooth and get you back to smiling! See more

Sparkling water vs. Soda Do you drink sparkling water to add a bit of fizzy fun to your daily water intake? Although drinking soda is far more likely to harm your teeth than sparkling water, you should still err on the side of caution and know that it should not replace normal water! Consensus: Sparkling water is a much better alternative than sugary, carbonated soda! If you practice good dental hygiene, skip the sodas, and only drink carbonated water every once in a while, you’re well on your way to keeping your teeth healthy and strong!

Time for a Monday reminder: Replace your toothbrush! As the bristles wear down, they become less effective at cleaning your teeth. Ideally, you should swap out your toothbrush or electric toothbrush every 3 months.

Aside from how often you snack, the length of time sugary food is in your mouth plays a role in tooth decay. -Avoid sticky situations! Sticky candies cling to your teeth. The stickier candies, like taffy and gummy bears, take longer to get washed away by saliva, increasing the risk for tooth decay. -Brush twice a day and never miss your dental appointments with us!
