#TestimonialTuesday _ Dr. Leo! Feels amazing to not only be adjusted but actually have a conversation about ways to improve besides just a good "POP". Hadn't been adjusted in years, the doc had me feeling 10 years young! The limb adjustments were new to me and felt so relieving. That neck pull, GAME CHANGER!! I'm excited to be able to workout and not feel as much pain, but I know if my muscle get tense the doc has me covered with the massages and extras. Support the hustl...e and the hustlers! #WorkoutWednesday _ REST _ Rest is much needed especially during the stressful times like now. When your stress level is high, the elevated levels of cortisol, can lead to proteolysis (breakdown of proteins) and muscle wasting. The elevated level of cortisol can also weaken the activity of the immune system.... _ Have you been trying to lose weight, doing everything right, but not seeing the results? High level of cortisol can make your body retain water. When I was a trainer, I had a client who had a very stressful job, worked out consistently, but couldn’t lose a single pound. But after she retired, she was able to drop weight easily! _ Some might say that you have to push through and get your workouts in no matter what. But if you’ve been working out consistently and feel worn out mentally or/and physically, it is okay to take a day or two off. Don’t be too hard on yourself. _ Now I’m not saying just to sit on the couch and do nothing. Do some meditation/pray, journal, breathing exercise, mobility drills, yoga, etc. I’ve heard people saying that gym is their meditation... That could be partially true, but you still need to work on your mental fitness on its own. Your brain has to process everything that’s going through your mind. _ Doing even 3 min of meditation daily can help you tremendously. Better mental state will lead to not only better performances, but better relationships with your loved ones, co-workers, and most importantly, YOU! _ I use @headspace daily to meditate and I love it! _ Hope everyone is doing ok during this stressful time. Hang in there! See more

#testimonialtuesday _ "Dr. Leo saved me from constant, shooting pain! I recently tweaked my lower back in a bad way (too much rough-housing with the kids probably) and started experiencing intense, shooting pains in my lower back. I couldn't bend down to pick anything up, let alone my toddler, and I was in constant pain in every position (sitting, standing, laying down in bed). I'm normally a very fit, active person, so this was frustrating beyond belief. After 4 days of tr...ying to "take it easy" with nothing more than a heating pad for relief, I called Dr. Leo Matsumoto. He spent some time going over my medical history, he wanted to learn about my typical level of activity, we talked about all the different ways the pain was ignited, and he took time to assess. Several adjustments later, some cupping, and massage, I was finally feeling relief. No more pain! But we didn't stop there. Dr. Leo took me through several stretches and low impact exercises I could do to facilitate active recovery while avoiding re-injury. Now I hear his voice in my ear as I stretch everyday, "a body in motion, stays in motion!" He set me up to strengthen parts of my body to avoid future injury in my lower back. But if I ever do something silly again like picking up all the toddlers and dancing around, I will definitely be back to see Dr. Leo!" _ Mahalo, Marissa _ DM for any questions!

And I hope this pandemic is over soon. It’s finally starting to hit me a little. I’m going to get adjusted, meditate, and see my therapist today. #MobilityThursday _ Ok guys before I say anything, please be careful if you do this. This is a sensitive area and make sure you don't put TOO MUCH pressure on it. And if you have hernia, see a healthcare professional first. _ This is basically a pin and stretch of the major hip flexors, psoas and iliacus. In the past, I tried using the edge of the foam roller and/or a ball to get into it but it is almost impossible to do it. So I came up with this one literally t...his week when I was treating a few patients of mine who are having hip flexor issues. _ Here's how to do these drills: 1 Get into a lunge position with both knees about 90 degrees. Find your belly button with your finger and go down about an inch diagonally. (See the pic of psoas on the next slide). And put the end of the stick on the area, squeeze your glutes and tilt your pelvis forward, and lean back while keeping the pressure on your psoas. Repeat this down the psoas muscles. 2 Find your ASIS (The front of your hip bone, see the third slide for the pic) . Get into the same lunge position, bring the front leg in and find your iliacus. Angle the stick diagonally, and place the end of the stick in iliacus. Bring your knee in and out while keeping the pressure on your iliacus. _ And make sure to not to forget to strengthen the areas that are causing the low back/hip pain. Stretching alone is not enough. Go see a GOOD healthcare professional to get evaluated! _ These drills are kind of hard to explain just by typing it. I hope it made sense. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me! #workoutwednesday _ I found out recently that I tore my supraspinatus tendon. I kind of knew it but it was confirmed through MRI. So I am getting guidance from awesome PT's like @amypedia and @thehowwithdrderhow . So I wanted to make a post about scapula muscle exercise, specifically serratus anterior aka boxer's muscle. _ Your scapula (shoulder blades) tilts anterior and posterior just like your pelvis. Serratus anterior is responsible for posterior tilt of the ...scapula (shoulder being in external rotation). When your scapula tilts anteriorly (shoulder being in internal rotation), serratus anterior becomes activated, to try and maintain the scapula position. _ Check out this dynamic stability exercise of serratus anterior! _ 1 Lean against the wall and put your heels about 6 inches away from the wall. 2 Squeeze your shoulder blades down and back against the wall 3 Externally rotate one arm and internally rotate one arm and hold both positions in end range for 5 seconds. If your fist can touch the wall, push against the wall. 4 Make sure that your scapulas don't move and they stay in neutral position (shoulder blades down and back against the wall) 5 Repeat 3-5 times on each side _ A lot of people focus on protraction of the scapula when it comes to serratus anterior, which is still important. But we don't really do protraction of the scapula when it comes to "normal" activities of daily living. So it is important to work on dynamic stability of the scapula since it is required for all shoulder movement! _ Hope all of this made sense. DM me for any questions! Leo Matsumoto See more
