Please see this week’s updates from Principal Ryono: Dear Newcomb Families, How time flies! Just one week left in February...here are this week's announcements:... 1. Elementary Campus Re-opening- Last week our district Board of Education announced that our Elementary campus will re-open for in-person instruction on Monday, March 29. We are currently in meetings with our district office to coordinate plans to accommodate all of our Newcomb families' Instructional Setting requests (in-person vs. online). When plans are completed, we will be sharing this information with you, along with AM/PM assignments. Please know that we will make every effort to keep in-person siblings together (either AM or PM), and do our best to keep your child with his/her current teacher. As well, we will be sharing the new distancing procedures for drop off and pick up, procedures for restroom use/playground/snack, COVID testing procedures, etc. More soon in the coming weeks. 2. Middle School Campus Re-opening- Our district Board of Education also announced that our Middle School campus will re-open for in-person instruction on Monday, April 19. The district will be re-surveying families soon. 3. 5th to 6th Middle School Choice Deadline- Tomorrow (Monday, February 22) is the deadline for 5th graders to apply online for their choice of middle schools. Please see the district Middle School Choice webpage for more information, https://www.lbschools.net//Middle_K8_Sch/school_choice.cfm. I know we are all looking forward to turning the page to 2021 and a brighter future that lies ahead.... Please take note of the upcoming events and important dates below. 1. School Resumes Monday, January 4- We return to our online Zoom classes tomorrow, January 4. Please help your children to go to bed early tonight and set an alarm for tomorrow morning. 2. High School Choice Night, Monday, January 4- Tomorrow evening, all 8th grade families are encouraged to attend the online High School Choice Information Night at 5:30 pm with Newcomb counselor Shondi McGee and district representative Kellie Hodge. Click on the Zoom link in Ms. McGee's bitmoji picture on your student's Canvas announcement. 3. Middle School Conferences/Asynchronous Day- Our middle school students who are receiving Ds or Fs will meet in 1:1 online conferences with their teachers throughout the day this Wednesday, January 6. Parents are invited to attend if available. The rest of the middle school students will be assigned asynchronous work that will count towards Wednesday's attendance. 4. K-8 Asynchronous Day- On Wednesday of next week, January 13, there will be no Zoom sessions due to a professional development day for teachers. All Newcomb students will be assigned asynchronous work that will count towards attendance that day. 5. Friday Spirit Theme- Our Student Council invites all students to dress in their 2021 New Year's Eve attire this Friday, January 8. Clarification re: "Schools Closed to the Public Dec. 14-Jan. 3": This district notification that was sent earlier today referred to any schools who were allowing visitors to come inside the office to conduct business. Our outdoor materials distributions are allowed to continue (next week for Gr. 1, Gr. 3, and Library Book orders). We are also allowed to continue with meal distribution and materials dro...p off/pick up outside the front office door. 2. Dear Newcomb Families, Here are this week's updates... 1. Minimum Day, Monday 11-9-20: Monday is the last minimum day dismissal for Fall Conferences.... 2. Power Outage Monday - Office will close at 1:30: Our district solar panel crew and SCEdison will conduct a planned power outage this Monday afternoon, November 9. The office will close early at 1:30, and phones will be off. Please email staff during that time if you need assistance. 3. Veteran's Day Holiday, Wednesday: There will be no school this Wednesday, November 11, in observance of our country's veterans. 4. City of Long Beach Calendar, 2021: The new City of Long Beach Energy Resources and Water Department calendar for 2021 features three Newcomb students- Alexis Rock, Hannah Martin, and Jared Lyon - to help depict the theme "Long Beach inspires a new generation!"
