The technology explosion means that connecting with your children is more important than ever. Without a strong foundation of parental connection, your kids won’t be able to develop the ability to love themselves, and eventually others.
Raising a child with special needs is a challenging task that can drain parents, especially when effective coping methods are absent.

How to explain to your child about going to therapy. It may be tempting to surprise your teen with therapy, but it's so important to take time to prepare them for their visit to a therapist. How do you prepare them? 1. Tell them a few days before the appointment that they are going to see a therapist.... 2. Show them pictures of the therapist and see if they have a video to watch 3. Tell them what will happen when you go and what it will be like. 4. Ask them if they have any questions and check in on them! 5. Find out any information ahead of time from the therapist so you can know how to answer your teen's question. Preparing your teen for their appointment is so important to setting them and their new therapist up for success! If you have any questions, comment below!
Do you react or respond to your child's behaviors? REACTING Means replying to situations and your kid’s behaviors based on your negative emotions.... RESPONDING Means acknowledging the space between the situation and emotion that has been triggered and replying calmly and compassionately. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT AN EXAMPLE TOGETHER! REACTION Aren’t you paying attention? It’s going to take me forever to clean this up. What a horrible day! RESPONSE Oops. You made a messy mess. Let’s get a mop and clean the floor together! Mindfully responding to situations by closely observing your emotions and thoughts without judging yourself is a crucial practice for learning to problem solve. Reacting to situations can be daunting and does more harm than good. Learn to observe, take a pause, and respond.

Instead of: "Did you have so much fun with your therapist?" Try this: "That must have been hard. I'm here if you need to talk."... Instead of asking your teens if they had fun in therapy, hold space for them to process and get some extra care and understanding. Therapy is hard, healthy work. And your teen is brave for being there.
Everyday life can be stressful and too much to handle at times. As people, we struggle with different things daily whether big or small as we go throughout the day. Therapy helps combat the daily struggles before it becomes a mental health struggle that develops into depression. It’s okay to seek preventative care through therapy
