Thank you, generous donors to NYA’s 38th Annual Scholarship Awards Benefit It’s official: a record $113,000 has been raised by 110 donors through this year’s Help & Hope Scholarship Awards Benefit. This total includes $79,000 in direct financial aid to students and $34,000 for student services and agency operations. Heartfelt thanks to all donors, trustees, and volunteers for joining students, parents, and staff in making this year’s Benefit, celebrated on May 8, the bes...t ever in NYA history. And, in addition: Thank you, Dwight Stuart Youth Fund, for Technology Response Grant Neighborhood Youth Association expresses its deep gratitude to the Dwight Stuart Youth Fund for a Technology Response Grant of $20,000 that will make new laptops, tablets, software, and added connectivity available to directly to students continuing to learn in online and hybrid settings. These new resources will benefit 70 students in grades 1-12 across NYA's after-school classes and tutoring sessions supporting 100-percent college placement for all. Congratulations to NYA teacher-of-the-year Esme Martinez, who last evening received the Venice Chamber of Commerce WAVE Award recognizing outstanding educators in schools and learning centers across the community. Thank you, Esme, for the excellence of your caring and engaging afterschool tutoring virtually serving NYA’s older elementary students since the outset of the pandemic. Thank you also for helping to coordinate NYA’s Family Food Drive that brought much needed assistance to our students and parents for many weeks. We salute you and your fine work that so wonderfully demonstrates NYA’s motto, #TogetherWeSucceed!

NYA’s virtual Fall Festival was a great success with face-painting and pumpkin decorating completed at home using craft supply kits provided to each student via socially-distanced pick-up on campus. Classes were linked by Zoom for a week-long series of activities including fun with monster slime, a cardstock skeleton, a scavenger hunt, bingo, and mask painting. Have you ever seen a better giraffe or tiger? Thank you Mar Vista Farmers' Market for the generous donation of mini pumpkins! Smiling eyes are sparkling with appreciation for school supply boxes provided to each of NYA’s 70 students (grades 1-12) by one of the most creative and generous donor teams of 25 individuals/families in the agency’s 114-year history! NYA’s Virtual Summer Camp 2020 is on its way to students’ homes! With physical distancing and other safety procedures in place, NYA youth leaders packed books, art supplies, skill-building worksheets, self-care packets, poetry lessons, and much more into 21 to-go boxes for drive-up distribution to NYA’s elementary and middle-school students. Set for use in Zoom classes starting July 6, materials include the NYA Reads summer book, New York Times bestseller No One Is Too S...mall to Make a Difference by young Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg its chapters to be engaged with climate-change discussions and vocabulary-building exercises. This year’s innovative virtual camp follows the tradition of NYA’s high-school-age Youth Leaders presenting daily programs for the younger students, all together under the supervision of NYA instructors and staff. While on-campus gatherings are suspended indefinitely, NYA’s vital mission of college-preparation and placement continues online and by phone, thanks to technology and the dedication of students and staff.
