After 20 years in the Marines, my husband retires at the end of the year. The Marine Corps Marathon to me is my way of thanking him for his service and his sacrifice. - Rebecca B. #RunWithTheMarines #RunWithNavyFed

It’s National STEM Day, and we’re shouting out to all the military career paths that integrate science, technology, engineering and math like the Navy Seabees, who have served as experts in construction since 1942.

We can say, without a doubt, we’re proud of Elle’s service and work with Navy Federal. #GratitudeMission During my time in the Navy, I was fortunate enough to participate in the 72nd Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony in 2013. While I have many other interesting and memorable stories during my service, this one has always stuck with me. There is just something about seeing the survivors and veterans that served during such a historic time that changes how you view those b...rave men and women. There were about 9 survivors there, all either in wheelchairs or with a walker. Every single Pearl Harbor survivor made sure to stand on their own and render a salute during TAPS. While I always felt proud to serve, it was in that moment, seeing those men with tears in their eyes saluting their fallen comrades, that made me realize my service was more than myself; it was for my family, my friends, my country, and most importantly, those that served before me. I stood in formation ringing off the Pearl Harbor survivors, and as they walked through, they stopped and thanked each one of us for our service. I have never felt so honored, proud, and yet humbled, as I did in that particular moment. For them to thank ME for my service when they went through so much just did not feel right in a way. So from that moment on, I ensured that everything I did, in work and in my personal life, I never stopped doing until I was proud. I had the mindset of, "If something were to happen to me today, would I be proud of the legacy that I leave?" The answer to this day is ‘yes’. While I have endured many trials and tribulations, I am proud of what I have gone through to make me, me.

Team member Ally ran the Marine Corps Marathon for the 4th time virtually! See why she chooses to #RunWithTheMarines: As one of my favorite marathons to run, it was different to run it through my neighborhood instead. This marathon is important to me because in 2016, my daughter who was only 15, ran it with me. It was her first full marathon and she was amazing. I’ve also completed this race with my husband who is a Navy Veteran and my sister who is in the Army. - Ally F.... #RunWithNavyFed

We’re celebrating our veteran employees as part of our #GratitudeMission. Here’s what Army veteran and Navy Federal employee, William Cross, has to say about his time in the service. Growing up, my mother forbid me from activities that she deemed precarious. I wasn’t allowed to climb trees, visit neighboring kids’ homes, or even consider missing curfew. She expected me home immediately after legitimate, proctored school activities finished. So, you could imagine the utter ...shock and abject horror on her face when learning that I enlisted in the U.S. Army following high school graduation. Shortly thereafter, I started a career where I was climbing cliffs while only holding onto ferns, visiting palatial estates of dignitaries and dictators, and missing a week of meet-up times while alone and escaping and evading during a joint military exercise. Needless to say, I have yet to describe much of my military career to my mother. She knows that I learned and became fluent in Russian when I was 19, but she doesn't know that I was rappelling out of helicopters or catheterizing Soldiers when I was 20. She knows that at 21, I dug, lived, and worked from a 6 foot-deep hole in Australia for 5 days, but she doesn't know about my involvement with the military conflict between Thailand and Myanmar when I was 22. My mother knows that I was in St. Petersburg, Russia, for some time when I was 23, but she doesn't know about any of the work that I did for the National Security Agency when I was 24. My mother may not know much about my first six years in the U.S. Army, but she does know that I view the first quarter of my career more fondly than any since. Similarly, she knows of my fondness for a continuation of service. As both an enlisted soldier and then an officer, I felt a calling to help those who couldn't help themselves. Since retiring from the Army, I'm drawn to supporting the heroes who pledge their lives to help those who can't help themselves. Hence, one of the reasons I accepted a Navy Federal fellowship this past January, after which I received an offer for full-time employment. Since May, I've been working as an Information Technology Project Manager and Scrum Master in Information Services’ (ISD) Business Process Automation (BPA) branch. With the consummate professionals I work alongside every day in ISD and BPA, I feel honored to continue serving others, and that is something that my mother does know. See more
