It is nearly impossible to be happy without also being healthy. When was the last time you got excited for feeling like crap? Exercise is said to be the most powerful antidepressant - get those endorphins going! Eat healthy, especially organic produce. Why? Broken down scientifically, happiness is basically our neurotranmissters like serotonin and dopamine attaching to receptors and their ability to do that strongly and frequently. You put foreign junk into your body like th...e chemicals in a common Western diet and your body doesn’t know WTF they are or what to do with them. It’s like throwing a big wrench onto the street and your car has to swerve and maybe not make it to its destination in time or at all. I have a love/ hate relationship with this happiness truth. Much of happiness is rooted in perception. I know, changing your mindset is so much easier said than done, right? When something negative happens I try to look for anything that could be a blessing in disguise. ... This pandemic has been especially difficult for me, being a life long dancer, with a career in the events industry, with a history of being very susceptible to depression and anxiety. There were opportunities to be had and lessons to be learned though that I otherwise would have not been able to see. What could a negative experience teach us? Another quick way to have a positive perspective change is to practice gratitude. Have a gratitude journal and write down 3 things in the morning when you wake up or at night before you do to sleep. I do this every day, especially during times I feel especially low. It helps when you do it consistently! Try it out.

In the pursuit of happiness, we need to remember it is okay to not be okay. We put pressure on ourselves to be happy, and receive pressure from others feeding the need to stay positive. We even feel guilty for feeling bad, or worse - when we compare our tragedies to others. Giving yourself space to feel the negative gives you the ability to work through it. Because trauma is so misunderstood in our culture, we have a society of adults who live in shame. Shame over not understanding their (learned) behavior. Of feel...ing stuck repeating their patterns that have roots in childhood. Mostly, beyond their awareness. Trauma is not just one time catastrophic events. Trauma is any experience where a person cannot cope + the nervous system becomes dysregulated. Trauma will never be experienced the same way for each person which is why it cannot be measured on a scale. It cannot be labeled big or little. How a child processes traumatic experience depends on their parents/adult figures ability to regulate their own emotional state. The adult child will cope in the similar way they were modeled to do so by a parent (through distraction, avoidance, substance use, acting out, toxic relationship dynamics,shutting down etc.) CHILDHOOD TRAUMA IS ALSO: 1. A parent denying your reality 2. Not being seen or heard 3. Having a parent who vicariously lives through their child 4. Being told directly or indirecty you can’t or should experience certain emotion 5. Having a parent who overcompensates for what they have unresolved in their own childhood 6. Having a parent who’s focused on appearance (physical + outwards to society) 7. Having a parent who can not regulate their own emotions #selfhealers

I used to think I didn't like lavender. Turns out I just didn't like fake lavender. I also wasn't too sure what I'd ever use lavender oil for. Turns out it's one of the oils I always have to keep in stock at home! I like diffusing it at night to relax before bed, but any skin irritations or bug bites - it's my first go-to. Have questions?
