Excessive Heat Warnings for July 31 to August 5, 2017 The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Excessive Heat Warnings for July 31 to August 5, covering large portions of California, due to forecasts of excessive heat for northern Sacramento valley and moderate heat risk for areas further south. Per the National Weather Service (NWS):... Heat risk is High and Very High, mainly in the northern Sacramento valley. Dangerous heat is expected. Heat risk is moderate for areas further south. Peak heat is expected Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight temperatures in the 60s and 70s for much of the Central Valley. Critical fire conditions for the Santa Ynez Range and South Coast of Santa Barbara are expected for this afternoon through tonight. Potential for increased fire starts due to the hot temperatures. Chance for thunderstorms return to southern California Tuesday and Wednesday and spreads north starting Thursday. Heat of this magnitude will have impacts for even the general population if precautions are not taken. See the attached Cal OES statewide weather briefing for more information about the excessive heat warnings. Please note: The California State Warning Center email address is [email protected]. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the California State Warning Center at (916) 845-8911. Please remember to take extra precautions during this heat wave. We urge everyone to help reduce their risk of heat-related health problems. An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. This warning is targeted at the elderly or infirmed who might be much more sensitive to heat and thus at greater risk. Individuals who fall into this category should be especially careful by drinking plenty of water, reducing outdoor exposure, staying out of the sun, seeking a cooler location for the day if no air conditioning is available in the living quarters, and/or asking a friend or relative to check on them frequently.
