Memorial Day, 27 May 2019
In 1969, in 2 separate tragic accidents, the United States Navy lost 41 brave soldiers. Leaving behind loved ones to pick up the pieces and move on with their ...lives. One civilian lost his life too. Other soldiers were injured and left behind to step back in and keep watch so we can be free. January 14, 1969 a catastrophic fire on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise claimed 28 lives and injured many. Heroic measures saved many more ( including my daddy) and saved their ship. December 22, 1969 at Miramar Navel Air Station (now Marine Corp Air Station Miramar) near San Diego, CA another tragic accident claimed the lives of 13 soldiers and 1 civilian. And some years later another soldier directly involved took his life. This year marks the 50th year since my daddy AVCM Joe Anderson Hastings was killed in the hanger fire after a jet crashed into hanger 1 December 22, 1969. My sister and I and family traveled to Miramar May 4, 2019 and held a private memorial to remember these men and their families with a wreath, flags, patriotic music, and a reverent humbling moment of reading aloud each name of those who gave all on these 2 dark days. This Memorial Day please pause a few moments to remember the thousands and thousands who have given their all and be thankful we can sleep free tonight more pictures in comments Steven Moyers See more
It's kind of faded after all these years.
