Myofascial Release Physical Therapy 02.07.2021

As we start planning the re-opening of our mentoring clinics, I would like to note the great outcomes many therapists have been reporting after attending our clinics and the reasons we began these clinics. Both Karey and I have overflowing practices. We are generally booked out past 3 months with waiting lists. We are hearing similar reports from therapists who have been attending our clinics and watching our videos. They often explain that because they had a better understan...ding of how to apply myofascial release from the time spent in our clinics and from our videos, they began to get results more consistently. They also have shared stories of amazed expressions of gratitude from their clients along with an increase in re-booked appointments and word of mouth referrals. I was recently asked what my marketing techniques were and I answered, Results. We have come to realize that mastering myofascial release produces powerful and consistent results that speak for themselves. We don’t have to offer discounts or package deals and our clients often express how what they spend on the sessions is completely worth it. At the end of this year, I will have been a physical therapist for 40 years and a myofascial release therapist for 30 of those years. It took a lot of time and effort to learn how to really be effective with myofascial release and I had to do it without any local support. I want to share all the experience and learned practices I gathered through the years to expand the talent pool in our community to meet the tremendous need for this work. With the restarting of these clinics, I will be able to add some significant instructional videos of key concepts I have discovered over the last year. I am excited to share these with everyone. You can see our past offerings through a subscription at our site hosted by Vimeo at www.mfrtv.com.

With the opening up of the ability of fully vaccinated individuals to gather together without the use of masks by June 15, Karey and I are planning on opening up our mentoring clinics again. Both Karey and I are fully vaccinated. These will continue to be small indoor events which means if you are vaccinated this event will be low risk. If you are un-vaccinated it is considered cautionary. We won’t require masks, but if you are un-vaccinated, we have to recommend that you us...e caution for your own protection. If you are vaccinated, we understand that the risk continues to be low even with un-vaccinated persons. Our concern is for the un-vaccinated. We will leave it up to individuals to make the decision around what they feel safe doing. No solution is perfect, but we are dealing with probabilities. We and the CDC believe the probability of cross infection is low with the majority of participants being fully vaccinated and if the un-vaccinated are in good health and don’t have the risk factors. We would like to include un-vaccinated therapists and are introducing where we are at to give room for comment. This is an extremely complicated situation because it involves so many variables. We desire that everyone feels comfortable and safe. If we can’t make it feel safe for everyone, we will have to limit attendance to only fully vaccinated therapists or expect if you don't feel safe as an un-vaccinated therapist you will wait to attend at a later class when it is safer. We want the majority of participants to be able to be mask free and if you decide to wear a mask we want you to be welcome. The recommendation for personal safety is that if you are un-vaccinated, the probability of infection is lower if you wear a mask. If everyone else is vaccinated your probability of infection is very low even without a mask.

We are going to have to cancel the rescheduled Mentoring clinic on April 25. We will add an additional mentoring clinic later in the year when we have more information regarding our ability to re-establish classes.

This is a picture I have hanging in my treatment room by Lora Zombie. The title is Give Peace Freedom. This picture is rich with symbolism. One of the interesting points of interest in the picture is the reason the little girl is dressed in rain gear. The dove in the cage is not only the symbol for peace, it is the symbol for the human spirit. The picture has many interpretations and one of them is the idea around releasing our own human spirit and our own inner peace.... Many times when I’m treating I will encounter deep holding in the left shoulder or heart space. If I sense strong emotions stirring deep within the holding I will use one of my go to phrases and ask if my client can say to themselves, I am enough. It is amazing how often they can’t say this and believe it to be true. For me, if I can’t believe that I am enough, I then create a restriction or cage around my spirit. There is a sorrow and loneliness that feels like a wound. And I can feel my inner child wanting to be free, because there were moments as a child where the world seemed so wonderful, and I didn’t question expressing myself to the world. The energy behind the restriction is so powerful. I can understand the initial fear of opening the cage. On the other hand it is a testament to our own power and instead of using our own power against ourselves in the creation of restricting cages, we simply have to let ourselves experience the freedom of seeing our deepest motivations and desires. And then trusting these motivations and desires will, unrestricted by fear, have a deep source of love behind them. On the one hand there is the fear symbolized by the cage and on the other the child trying to take a saw to the restriction so that the deep soul can be released and peace restored. The more I do this work, the more I trust the idea that if we simply release the restrictions, both physical and emotional, the body and the spirit will balance themselves. And while we can’t control what happens in the outside world, we certainly can learn to maintain our inner sense of peace by keeping fear out, hopefully never having to use the saw again. Let me end with a quote that captures the feeling of being enough. I have already settled it for myself so flattery and criticism go down the same drain and I am quite free. Georgia O’Keeffe

Scientists at Purdue University have realized stiffening of the extra cellular matrix (fascia) is an indication of disease, particularly cancer. They have developed a device that uses ultrasound to determine the stiffness of the extra cellular matrix non invasively. While they are assuming the stiffness is a result of the disease, it is interesting to consider the stiffness itself may be the cause of disease. I note all the time during treatment how whatever my client is thinking about will change the stiffness of the fascia under my hand in real time. The link with consciousness is quite apparent. https://www.medgadget.com//chip-measures-stiffness-of-extr

We are changing our March 28 mentoring clinic to April 25 due to the restrictions on gathering due to the Covid-19 Virus. Please note this. If the restrictions are still in place by April 25, we will reschedule again or wait until our next one and add an additional clinic between.
