GOD ONLY KNOWS Beach Boys by Emma #132 Hello all, Welcome to June month of Summer Songs.... "God Only Knows" is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1966 album Pet Sounds. Written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher, it is often praised as one of the greatest songs ever written and as the Beach Boys' finest record. The song's musical sophistication is demonstrated by its multiple contrapuntal vocal parts and weak tonal center (competing between the keys of E and A. With lead vocals by his brother Carl, Brian produced the record between March and April 1966, enlisting about twenty session musicians who variously played drums, sleigh bells, plastic orange juice cups, clarinets, flutes, strings, French horn, accordion, guitars, upright bass, harpsichord, and a tack piano with its strings taped. The song ends with a series of repeating vocal rounds, another device that was uncommon for popular music of the era. "MEMORIAL DAY TAPS AND CABARET #130 by Malek Hello all, "Cabaret" is the title song of the 1966 musical of the same name, sung by the character Sally Bowles. It was composed by John Kander, with lyrics by Fred Ebb. In the musical, the song is performed by the character Sally Bowles in a night club setting in Weimar Germany in 1931. Her lover has told her that he is taking her back to America so that they can raise their baby together in safety. Sally protests as she thinks ...their life in Berlin is wonderful and she states politics have nothing to do with them or their affairs. After a heated row, Sally goes on stage singing Cabaret (life is a cabaret, old chum), thus confirming her decision to live in carefree ignorance of the impending problems in Germany. This is the end of May our Broadway month and Happy Memorial Day. Top of the lighthouse in Long Beach is the answer to where am I. 86th QUARANTINE SINGING CIRCLE VIDEO ‘LET IT SNOW’ BY MALEK Hello All, See some pictures from Seal Beach Christmas Parade and sing along with Malek as he sings the classic Let It Snow, made famous by Mr Dean Martin.... From the Story of a Song: It’s about making the most of a snowy day by spending it with a loved one by the fire, even though Christmas is not mentioned in the lyrics. Instead of going to the beach, they stayed at wrote a winter song! In Paul Zollo’s book ‘Songwriters on Songwriting’ writer Sammy Cahn said: ’Let It Snow’ was written on Hollywood and Vine on the hottest day of the year. I said to Jule Stein, ‘Why don’t we go down to the beach and cool off?’ He said, ‘Why don’t we stay here and write a winter song.’ I went to the typewriter. ‘Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, and since we’ve got no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.’ Now why three ‘let it snow’s’? Why not two or four? Because three is lyric. It was originally sung by Vaughn Monroe, but Dean Martin’s version is one of the best ones, and perfectly fits his image as a swinging member of the Rat Pack without a care in the world. According to ASCAP, the most popular version on American radio is by Harry Connick Jr. Release Date: 1945 Songwriter/s: Sammy Cahn Jule Styne Chart Rankings: The song was first recorded by Vaughn Monroe topping the Billboard Best Sellers music charts. Artist’s age on Release Date: Vaughn Wilton Monroe was 34 years old and Dino Paul Crocetti known as Dean Martin was 28 years old when this song was released. Cover Versions: Jo Stafford Ella Fitzgerald Andy Williams Jessica Simpson Carly Simon Rod Stewart Lindsey Stirling Some Youtubers also covered this song. PLEASE SHARE>>>>> HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
