The MVHS Football Boosters put on a barbecue on the final day of Summer Camp to celebrate all the hard work players and coaches put in over many long, hot days. Thank you to Coach Wilson and Coach Munn for manning the grill, to Coach Olson for the logistical support, and to the volunteers who made it happen. And congratulations to Coach Smith for managing to avoid destroying his phone when the players invited him to join them. The boys had a great time! (Rumor has it offensive and defensive players were even seen talking to each other.)

STOP!! Don’t throw away those old shoes. We don’t have a date set yet, but the football team will be holding a shoe drive in 4 to 5 weeks. Shoes, boots, and sandals are ok, but no flip-flops/thongs, please. If the shoes have laces, please tie them together. If not, please wrap with rubber bands to keep pairs together.

$3000! That's how much the MVHS Football Booster Club happily paid this year so the team could have the much-needed access to Hudl. Opportunities to contribute directly to the on-field success of the team and to the football experience of the players are treasured, but don't happen without extensive planning, sweat equity, and personal sacrifice by dedicated volunteers. My two favorite things about the booster club are the impact it makes and the integrity with which it o...perates. The MVHS Football is different than many you've heard about. To start, it is accountable - you can track money earned directly to money spent. The books are auditable and maintained not by a booster member, but a qualified CPA. Transparency is everything when it comes to people's money. That said, there will be some responsibilities shifting around this season. For example, the Booster Club will not be involved with the Snack Bars (home and away sides). Please continue to support whichever group takes over this extremely demanding job. It's a labor-intensive responsibility that requires people to shop during the normal workday, track inventory, solicit and coordinate some 30 volunteers per week, availability every Thursday afternoon and Friday evening, coordination with the AD, coaches, and security, and financial integrity. I haven't heard whether the snack bars will be open for the La Quinta scrimmage on August 23rd, but I'm sure they will be before our first home game on September 20th.
