As a result of Governor Newsom’s recommendations and orders to help slow the spread of COVID-19, including the limitation of group activities, it has been decided to cancel the trail crew projects scheduled for March 14 and March 18 due to as they say an abundance of caution. Everyone stay healthy and we will see what happens next. You can email me if you have any questions.... Hello Trail Crew, The 3rd Tuesday trail project is on February 18. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the the large, gravel-covered turnout where Summit Trail crosses South Gate Road about one mile below Junction and about one mile above Rock City. We will be trimming trees and brush along the edge of South Gate Road. We will be trimming the west side of South Gate Road starting from the meeting location and head uphill.... The project will involve: -cutting back most of the vegetation within 10 feet of the road edge, -clearing dead debris that is within the 10 foot wide zone, -removing vegetation over the road to a height of 16 feet, -use of a personal lift device that I will be using with a chainsaw to get access higher into the trees and to allow clearing around the utility lines, and -a park staff member operating a wood chipper. Volunteers will be needed to -cut back overgrowth at ground level using loppers and handsaws, -carry the organic debris to the location of the chipper, -assist in the operation of the chipper, and -perform traffic control. Please wear long-sleeve shirts, long pants, sturdy shoes or boots, and gloves. Hardhats will be required. Hardhats and gloves will be available if needed. Bring a water bottle and lunch. Water and public restrooms are available nearby. I will have snack bars available during the day and cold beverages at the end of the day. Place a copy of the attached parking pass on your windshield after you park. You will not need to pay the entrance fee. Anyone under the age of 18 will need to provide a completed copy of the attached parental permission form (see prior post for form) See you Tuesday, Mark Sinclair Park Maintenance Worker/ Trails Coordinator Mount Diablo State Park O: 925-837-6122
