Mountain Home Desert Retreat

There IS beauty in the desert! One might visit or just drive through our parts and think why would anyone choose to live in the desert?! Our universe is so diverse. The wonders of God and his creations are boundless! Our small portion of this planet is beautiful if you only stop to look and take in the beauty! Isaiah 35:1-10 GNB... The desert will rejoice, and flowers will bloom in the wilderness. The desert will sing and shout for joy; it will be as beautiful as the Lebanon Mountains and as fertile as the fields of Carmel and Sharon. Everyone will see the LORD's splendour, see his greatness and power. Give strength to hands that are tired and to knees that tremble with weakness. Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don't be afraid! God is coming to your rescue, coming to punish your enemies. The blind will be able to see, and the deaf will hear. The lame will leap and dance, and those who cannot speak will shout for joy. Streams of water will flow through the desert; the burning sand will become a lake, and dry land will be filled with springs. Where jackals used to live, marsh grass and reeds will grow. There will be a highway there, called The Road of Holiness. No sinner will ever travel that road; no fools will mislead those who follow it. No lions will be there; no fierce animals will pass that way. Those whom the LORD has rescued will travel home by that road. They will reach Jerusalem with gladness, singing and shouting for joy. More critters.... California Quail These beauties are our state bird and we have a lot of them. They are so beautiful to watch. They choose one mate for life and have about 12 babies at one time.... They do fly but given a choice, they prefer to run away from trouble. They have numerous calls whether to signal danger, chat with each other or call their mate. More critters.... Lizards You are guaranteed to see lizards most any warm day at Mountain Home!... Pictured are some of the more common ones. We think they are cute and regularly chat with them. They aren't very afraid of humans unless you get right up on them. They commonly run into rooms if the door is left open but they are harmless. Do you find them creepy or cool? Pictured are some common ones you might see at Mountain Home. The legless lizard resembles a giant silver worm or snake. TBT Then (1936) and now! Walking in the bushes one day not too long ago gathering trash that had blown away, I noticed standing rocks in a square formation. There were white quartz rocks scattered about too. I KNEW there was something to this but didn't know what until I came across this picture form 1936. I went back and took pictures of the area which is mostly overgrown now but the relics of that hard work still exist!
