There is a big conversation right now about pressure to breastfeed and how that impacts new parents and the health of babies. It's a good conversation. I hope no one ever walks away from a meeting with me feeling pressured to breastfeed at the expense of something else that is more important to them, including but not limited to their mental health. Sometimes breastfeeding is very very hard work - especially in the beginning. And sometimes breastfeeding is impossible and ...the road to learning that it is impossible is long and tortuous. Some people do themselves and their families a huge favor by not traveling that road and instead choosing to use a breast milk substitute as opposed to continuing to try to get breastfeeding going. How a child is fed and how long they nurse should be an informed choice made by the parents. That said, there is a lot of subtle and not so subtle to do things that can either compromise or end the breastfeeding relationship. When a family has made an informed choice to breastfeed and it is working _for_ _them_ there is no need to feed them any of that bullshit.
