In those emotionally difficult times, grounding techniques allow you to pull away from those unwanted memories or challenging feelings. Instead, they will help you refocus on the happenings of the present moment. Below are some helpful grounding techniques that you can use to recenter yourself: Physical techniques:... - dip your hands in water - breathe deeply - move your body - listen to your surroundings Mental techniques - think in categories: choose a broad category like "types of fruit" or "colors" and take a minute to think of as many things in those categories as you can - Describe a common task: think of instructions for doing a certain task. This could be "how to make pancakes" or "how to make coffee" Soothing techniques - Practice self-kindness: repeat nice phrases to yourself such as "you are having a rough time but you can make it through" or "you are trying hard and you are doing your best" - sit with your pet - list your favorite things: Think of categories (animals, places, songs, movies, etc) and list your favorite things within those categories. - list positive things - listen to music

Meditation is a great mental exercise that enables awareness, focus, and relaxation; it trains your mind to focus and redirect thoughts. People usually meditate by sitting down with their eyes closed. Millions of people have reaped the benefits of this exercise. There are amazing benefits to meditation. Here are a few: - Globally speaking, between 200 and 500 people meditate - 75% of insomniacs that started daily meditation were able to fall asleep within 20 minutes... - School suspensions have reduced meditation sessions by 45% Websites like Mindfulness App, Headspace, and Calm are great ways to get started on your mediation journey. They offer guided meditations that you can follow along. These meditations also vary in length and topic. Definitely check those apps out.

We have been BUSY!! Credentialing with insurance panels (ALMOST there! ), ramping up our website, connecting with our community, getting back to semi- in person office hours, taking care of referrals (we LOVE you and appreciate you for all the referrals that come our way!), scheduling our vaccinations so that we can do even MORE in person office hours, and putting together groups that we hope to announce soon! With that being said- we are a small team of 3 and the best way... to connect with us is via email at: [email protected] Please use this email for any inquiries, appointment requests, referrals, etc! We will respond as quickly as we can, typically within 24 hours! And- lastly- MINDFULNESS MONDAY from Mosaic Counseling Center: Breathe, be still, listen. That is the art of mindfulness and the skill that perpetuates calm and decreases anxious feelings. I like to take my cup of tea outside, and sit. Listening to the birds and looking at my lavender bush. Paying attention only to what I can feel in that moment, see in that moment, smell in that moment and hear in that moment. This allows me to grab about 10-15 minutes of time to refresh and recharge my mental health for the day. Perfect for a busy Monday! Be well friends and happy Monday!

Mosaic Counseling Center wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Take time today, if you can, to reflect on what you have. Find gratitude in the small things; the enough. Be still and slow down. You may find that you have much more positives than you originally thought. Remember- it’s how we look at things that make them what they are...sometimes- we need to readjust our lens.

As we roll into another week, one that may be filled with work for some, time off for others, let’s try to be kind to one another. And to work towards acceptance and encouragement to our peers, co workers, neighbors, and everyone else we come across. We at Mosaic are dedicated to ending the stigma that continues to surround mental health and illness. It can be an invisible disease, but it is just as lethal and devastating as any other. A majority of people suffer in silence-... scared of being judged and feeling ashamed. But the truth is- so many struggle. All around us. Every day. Here is a quote from Demi Lovato- an amazing musician who’s struggled with drugs and alcohol addiction along with mental illness. We admire her for her honesty, her courage to advocate and to educate: Demi Lovato: I think it’s important that people no longer look at mental illness as something taboo to talk about...It’s something that’s extremely common, one in five adults has a mental illness, so basically everyone is essentially connected to this problem and this epidemic. The problem with mental illness is people don’t look at it as a physical illness. When you think about it, the brain is actually the most complex organ in your body. We need to treat it like a physical illness and take it seriously. Reach out. Speak up. We are here for you.
