June is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. It’s a time meant to raise awareness, understand PTSD better, and end the associated stigmas. Remember, invisible wounds are among the hardest to heal. Their closure depends upon the love of others, patience, understanding, and the tender gift of time. The scammers have a new one! I received an automated call on my cell which said a package of drugs coming to my home was intercepted by Customs and Boarder Patrol. Obviously, as a law abiding citizen, I press #1 to be transferred to an agent. I want to be as helpful as possible. The agent asked if I was expecting a package from USPS today. Well, to be honest, since COVID it feels like there are packages from Amazon left at my door daily, I replied. ... The agent said this was USPS. Oh I think it’s a crime to ship drugs by USPS I said, although I did just reorder my kids Flintstone vitamins so...... The agent wasn’t very professional. He asked if I was an idiot. That depends on who you ask I suppose. I have 2 undergraduate degrees and 1 postgraduate degree, but I also burned the bacon at breakfast this morning, setting off the smoke alarm, and my wife didn’t think that was very smart! The agent asked if I was trying to be funny. I honestly didn’t know how to answer that one because I often find I’m considered funnier than intended. I just assume it’s my accent, people are always commenting on that. So, the agent tells me he just needs my name, address, birthday, social, and credit card number to guarantee I won’t be arrested by my local police. I asked him how I’m meant to get my drugs delivered. Must’ve been a bad connection because I couldn’t make out all the words he was saying, although I’ve definitely had a few of them hurled at me before. I decided to educate my friendly agent and told him that I had just learned on Google that it is a crime to ship drugs by mail. It’s also a crime to call people when they are vulnerable and try to take advantage of their inexperience with police, or their fear of the police. He hung up. Maybe this agent wasn’t so dumb after all, but I don’t think he’ll be getting any awards for customer service anytime soon. Who knows where my package will end up???

On January 8th, at approximately 7:05 pm, Morgan Hill Police were dispatched to a possible burglary in progress at Ulta Beauty located at 1015 Cochrane Rd. Officers learned two female adults had entered the store and were filling large bags of expensive perfume and fragrances. These same two suspects were involved in a similar incident reported at the Gilroy Ulta store, where approximately $6,000 in merchandise were stolen earlier the same afternoon. As responding units arriv...ed, Officers located the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene and a pursuit was initiated northbound on US 101 by MHPD. This pursuit was eventually terminated in San Jose due to reckless and unsafe driving by the fleeing suspects. It was later determined the suspect vehicle had fled the scene leaving behind the two female suspects inside the store. While the initial pursuit was taking place, the female suspects exited the store and realized their get-away vehicle was gone. The suspects then carjacked and kidnapped an unsuspected victim. The suspects made the victim drive them from the crime scene to avoid capture. They traveled north on US 101 towards San Jose and as they neared the Bailey Ave exit, the victim saw a police car stopped on the side of the road. The victim realized this was her opportunity to escape and quickly pulled over to flag down the officer. The two female suspects remained in the vehicle as the victim told the officer what had happened. One of the suspects got into the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle and fled the area before the officer could make contact. An additional pursuit was initiated as the female suspects drove north on 101 in the stolen car. The suspects then traveled north on 880 as police units followed. The California Highway Patrol assisted with the pursuit as units chased the wanted suspects into Oakland. The pursuit finally ended in the area of 48th Ave and Ygnacio Ave in Oakland. Both suspects exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. OPD units arrived at the scene and established a perimeter and a subsequent search for the wanted suspects. Both suspects were located by police nearby and taken into custody without incident. The stolen property was recovered after the suspects attempted to hide it in the rear yard of a residence. 20-year-old, Klah Williams of Richmond, and her juvenile accomplice were transported back to Morgan Hill. Williams was later booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and evading police. Williams is suspected of similar other thefts throughout the Bay Area. The female juvenile suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on similar charges. Anyone that may have questions or information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Bill Norman at 669 253-4982 or our anonymous tip-line at (408)947-STOP.

On the 3rd Day of Christmas Safety Tips.... Christmas shopping looks very different this year. Many of us have Christmas presents delivered to our home and as our mail carriers and delivery drivers often work late into the night we encourage you to check your front door for packages one last time just before you go to bed. It gets dark around 5pm but packages may arrive after 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm. A package left at your front door all night is a very attractive early Christmas present for a would-be thief. Let's make our homes a hard target for thieves this year.

On the 10th Day of Christmas Safety Tips... I realized that we missed yesterday so today will be a twofer! Keep chocolates and other poisonous treats away from pets. According to the Pet Poison Helpline yuletide plants such as holly berries and mistletoe can also be toxic to pets. When Christmas or English holly is ingested, it can result in severe gastrointestinal upset thanks to the spiny leaves and the potentially toxic substances.

In June 2020, the Stockton Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit and the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ)/California Highway Patrol (CHP) Special Operations Unit (SOU) initiated a joint investigation in conjunction with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office into the criminal activities of the Asian Boyz, Muddy Boyz Crips, Lil Ruthless Criminals Comstocc Crips, Loctown Crips, and Asian Crip criminal street gangs in the City of Stockton. The oper...ation was started because of an increase in violent crime involving documented gang members of these groups in the City of Stockton. These groups were working together to benefit their gangs /subsets and the Crips criminal street gang. Todays quiz is for the speeders, cheaters, and red light sneakers. When you see this you should..... a) Hit the gas and hope for the best. ... b) Slow down and prepare to stop. 8 drivers rushing during commute hours to make the left turn from SB Monterey Rd onto EB Cochrane Rd picked Option A yesterday and were issued a citation for not making the yellow but blowing through the red arrow, violating 21453(c) VC. Intersections are inherently more dangerous and collisions at intersections can result in more serious injuries. Rushing through the intersection puts you at risk, puts oncoming traffic and cyclists (who have the green light) at risk, puts pedestrians and kids at risk (they have the walk signal) and generally increases the likelihood of vehicle collisions and injuries. Take the few extra minutes and wait for the next green light.
