Finished the first plumbing section to our next garden expansion area. No leaks! Will put in about 20 ground beds.
This sale is open to the public.
This Saturday, April 3 at 10:00 AM there will be a gardening class at the the Morgan Hill Community Garden. The emphasis will be on basic gardening techniques. We will look at various beds in the Garden to learn from seeing best practices. The class will be led by Patrick Day, UCCE Master Gardener. Everyone is welcome and masks are required. Hope to see you Saturday at 10:00. Free and open to the public.
Light rain off and on for the Saturday Work Day. Thanks to the members who weeded, put down more wood chip mulch, and other chores. Nice rainbow.
Big thank you to two non-member volunteers who helped me with work on the pollinator garden this morning. David pictured here who heard about the Garden and just wanted to help out. He brought a handful of Spanish onion seedlings too. Wonderful. Also, Matthew from Scout Troop 799 helped out for an hour with some much needed work.
Here is a great segment on the importance of using cover crops or green manure.
Another great gardening class taught at the MH Community Garden on Saturday Jan. 9 by UC Master Gardener (and Board member) Pat Day. Topics were starting seeds, vegetative propagation of plants like African basil, growing sweet potatoes and potatoes. We later moved to Pat's raised beds where he explained the importance of cover cropping, rotating crops, mulching, and how to plant potatoes. We learned a lot.
We got our new sign installed by the great workers of City of MH. John Jenkins installed the also attractive sign donated by Leadership MH. Most of the scheduled projects got done this crazy year. Happy Holidays
Wonderful Ribbon cutting for the Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2020's project. They were wonderful to work with and gave us an great addition to our Garden. This is what community is all about.
Class members of the 2020 Leadership Morgan Hill finished off the log scramble and helped me put the roof on the gazebo. Just have some minor work to do to finish the gazebo and get the permit signed off by the City. Lots of energy today fueled by coffee and doughnuts.

David Domenichini Construction generously donated two days of time for his workers to assemble the gazebo. The got it nearly all done. We will finish it off by bolting the four posts to the concrete slab and installing the roof panels. Let it rain after it's all done!
Beautiful new art additions by Leadership Morgan Hill to the Children's Garden area. Made by local artists.
Today the artwork panel "You Belong Here" by our local artist Teresa was installed in the area which will be part of the new children's garden. Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2020 is the energy and talent behind this project.
Good community turn out (about 15 people) for Pat Day's What to Plant Now and More class on Sept. 5 (Saturday morning). Another very informative class on many aspects of gardening.
A big thanks to the Leadership Morgan Hill class working in the hot weather this Saturday and Sunday putting together the redwood tables and benches for the new children's garden. They look amazing. A big thanks to Mike Cox for cutting the lumber from scratch from a giant redwood log and providing much assistance.
Good tips on cucumber harvesting.
Thank you for the great write up.
Lots of color and crops growing this summer at this new location.
Tip - when to pick zucchini -- Master Gardener Jeff Janks shows us his fast-growing zucchini and explains the optimal time to pick them.
Another informative Gardening basics talk by our UC Master Gardener Pat Day on June 27. Everything from building soil, cover crops, watering, and what to plant now. Attended by MH Community Garden members and non-members.
Tip - Kale Kale is primarily a cool-season crop in our area but you don’t need to remove it when the weather turns warm. It will grow year-round and even for se...veral years. The problem you are likely to see in the summer is that it gets buggy. If you can tolerate the giant whiteflies and aphids, you can leave it as a decoy plant to attract the pests away from your other plants and to feed the lady beetles so that they will stick around. Kale grows well in the ground or in containers and is not picky about the soil. If the plant gets too big and grows a tall stalk, like walking stick kale, you can cut off the top, remove the lower three or four leaves from the stalk, and stick it back in the ground and water it. It will regrow easily. You could also wait for the seeds and grow again from seed. It will probably be pest-free again and pleasantly edible when the weather turns cooler. http://sonomamg.ucanr.edu/Vegetable_of_the_Month/Kale/
