Great advice from our friends at Sierra Madre Search and Rescue. There have been times in the past where we find the missing hikers car but do not know which of five trails they took. This causes us to split up our resources. If we know your itinerary, we can concentrate our field teams on that trail. #LASD

Missing Hiker Found in Bear Canyon Today, our team continued the search for George "Dave" Null. We had help from Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, Malibu Search and Rescue Team (Malibu SAR) - LASD, Ventura County East Valley Search and Rescue Team, and Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit. We also had aerial support from the crew at Air Rescue 5. During the afternoon, the crew from Air 5 were searching at Bear Creek. When they were deep in the c...anyon east of Triplet Rock, they spotted Dave at creek bottom. He was waving to get their attention. The air crew conducted a hoist rescue and safely brought Dave to the helipad. Once on the ground, he was medically assessed. Thankfully, he only had minor scratches from his ordeal. Dave told us he had not eaten since going missing. He used his survival skills to find clean water to drink. At night, he used a lighter to make a warming fire. Our team would like to thank all the people who helped in this happy ending. We want to thank Newcomb's Ranch for hosting our command post, Angeles Crest Christian Camp for hosting our out of town teams, and the Cal Trans Yard at Chilao for the helipad. It was truly a team effort. #LASD

LASD 12.01.2021

Please consider the below advice. With the poor weather and recent burn scars, this may not be the best time to visit the forest. Further, if your vehicle does not have all wheel drive/4x4 and chains, your chances of being stuck on the mountain increase greatly. #LASD

Today, our team members remember Reserve Deputy Charles D. Rea. On today's date, 1969, Reserve Deputy Rea responded to a call of 30 people surrounded by raging waters, in the La Paloma Flats area of Big Tujunga Canyon. During the call, he fell into the rushing waters and drowned. Reserve Deputy Rea survived by his wife and four daughters. We remember his sacrifice and dedication to the residents of Los Angeles County. #EOW #LASD

Each weekend, Montrose SAR staffs a patrol truck into the Angeles NF. Some photos from Sundays activity. Started out as such a nice day on patrol...a decorated Christmas tree in the forest, some mistletoe in the trees...Unfortunately, things got busy in the afternoon. First a motorcyclist collided head on with a car at Switzers, and then a car collided with the ambulance coming up for the injured motorcyclist, who was taken to the hospital by Air-Rescue 5. All other drivers suffered only minor injuries. Big shout out to Altadena Mountain Rescue, who was training nearby and first on scene for the first crash. #teamwork #montrosesar #altadenamountainrescue #airrescue5 #slowdown

The LASD is monitoring the violence unfolding between Azerbaijan and Armenia which, while, 7,200 miles away from Los Angeles, is of extreme and immediate import...ance to so many within our community. We hear you and we understand. In fact, Los Angeles County is home to more people of Armenian descent than anywhere in the world outside of Armenia itself. We witness, denounce and condemn the violence and attacks occurring upon civilians in Artsakh. We welcome peaceful protests of solidarity here in Los Angeles and stand with you in our shared demand for peace.

Late on Tuesday night, our team received a call for service regarding a dog who was over the side of a cliff. We responded to Angeles Crest Highway near mile marker 28.06 and found a chihuahua who was stuck on the side of the mountain. The dog had escaped the owner's car and ran over the side. Our team members went 100 feet over and were able to bring the dog to safety. #LASD

During our monthly team meeting, we discussed the 14 call outs we had in September. 7 of our call outs were for heat related emergency's. Our team wants to remind everyone to carry plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat when going on the trails. Even as the fall weather approaches, we can have warm, dry conditions in Southern California. #LASD

MAX HUNTSMAN OMITS THE FACTS ONCE AGAIN October 5, 2020 Today, I learned of the latest Office of Inspector General (OIG) report. ... Conspicuously absent from the report is the fact the OIG had multiple opportunities to address the Banditos issue during the four years under my predecessor but chose to remain silent. This is because his job as a political appointee is to do whatever the Board instructs him to do. Mr. Huntsman now claims the past is the present, while willfully omitting all of the progress which has been made. His actions are purely politically driven and an attempt to undermine the reputation of the Department. The report alleges investigators did not conduct a thorough investigation into the Kennedy Hall deputy on deputy fight. This is false. Both criminal and administrative investigations were conducted where investigators interviewed over 70 involved parties and witnesses in the case. In addition, this case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) for their review and their office concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The facts are that immediately after taking office, I relieved the East Los Angeles Station captain of his command, overhauled the entire leadership of the station, and transferred 36 personnel. In February of 2020, I became the first and only sheriff to successfully implement a policy specifically addressing employee groups which violate the rights of other employees or members of the public. 3-01/050.83. Employee Groups which Violate Rights of Other Employees or Members of the Public (http://pars.lasd.org/Viewer/Manuals/10008/Content/14944) On August 13, 2020, at the conclusion of the Kennedy Hall fight between deputies investigation, I held a press conference to publish the results of the investigation for the public. Twenty-six deputies involved in that early morning fight were either suspended or terminated. As has become his pattern, Mr. Huntsman seems to have once again intentionally omitted facts which do not further his political agenda. Please view our August 13, 2020, press conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEg6Gzilpt4&feature=youtu.be

A message from Sheriff Allex Villanueva: As of this Tuesday September 29, 2020, the Board of Supervisors continued their campaign to defund the LASD. $105 milli...on additional dollars are being diverted to support criminal offender programs such as the Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) initiative. This is at the expense of patrol deputies who keep our families safe, detectives who investigate hundreds of cases, and custody resources that keep the community safe. You might notice #LASD personnel wearing different patches in October, here's why; Since 2016, The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has participated in ...the Pink Patch Project to support Breast Cancer Awareness. In 2019 for the first time in the Department's history, Sheriff Villanueva authorized Department Members to wear LASD pink patches on all LASD personnel uniforms for the month of October. The Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association and several public safety agencies in Los Angeles County and beyond. These agencies have partnered together to combat breast cancer by raising public awareness and raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment. The Pink Patch can also be purchased at www.lasdpinkpatchproject.com. The proceeds from the sale of these items will directly benefit cancer research foundations
