SPOTLIGHT on our TEACHERS #2: If you know Monte Vista, you know Mr. Dypiangco another of Monte Vista's AMAZING Teachers! Gerard Dypiangco comes from a family of educators. His wife Emily teaches 2nd grade at Griffin Avenue Elementary! They are both in their 31st year in the Los Angeles Unified School District! His sister-in-law Millicent is a magnet coordinator at Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet High School.... And...his mom, Lucila taught in LAUSD for 31 years, mostly at Bell High School! Mr. Dypiangco is an accomplished Runner! During the first few months of the pandemic, he ran every street in his home city of Hacienda Heights! He has won essay writing contests to run marathons in Seville, Spain and Salt Lake City, UT. He also qualified to run in the Boston Marathon, but there is no set date for the next one...Stay tuned! His favorite book is "Let Your Mind Run" and you might find him fueling up after a run on some carne asada nachos or relaxing with his family at Descanso Gardens! Mr. Dypiangco says: "I miss interacting with my students in person. We are all doing our best to make virtual class work, but I miss that in-person connection. I am much funnier in person. Kids don't get my jokes over Zoom." We and miss you Mr. Dypiangco and we think you are funny! SPOTLIGHT on TEACHERS! Our Teachers are amazing and we are going to put a SPOTLIGHT on the ways they are serving our students and families during this difficult time...and BEYOND! This month, meet the newest member of our Staff: KAREN BARRON! ... Ms. Barrón is teaching Kindergarten in our Film and Communication Magnet. Ms. Barrón was born and raised in Orange, California. She graduated from Orange High School and then continued her studies and graduated from California State University, Fullerton. Ms. Barrón, on why she loves teaching: "I love teaching because I get to teach and learn from my students. I get to support students to continuously grow and hopefully foster a love for education like I have." Ms. Barrón's favorite book is "Tuesdays with Morrie". She loves the movie "Emperor's New Groove" and going for hikes is a way she spends her free time. If you want to get her a special treat, she loves Iced Coffee or a cold Coke from McDonald's! Monte Vista 5th graders learned Foxtrot, Merengue, Salsa, Tango and Swing Dances! Thank you Conga Kids for teaching not only Dance, but also Confidence, Discipline and Social Skills to our kids!
