Happy Otter Awareness week!!!! Did you know sea otters often wrap themselves in kelp to keep themselves from drifting out to sea? cred to @helainasaurus
One of our favorites here on the Slough!Nearly wiped out in the United States in the late 1800s, when it’s plumes were sought after for use in fashion. This bird made a comeback thanks to conservationists who put a stop to the slaughter and protected colonies. As a result, the Great Egret became a symbol of @audubonsociety

Brandt's Cormorants are large and have long, slender necks. Adults are almost solid black. Juveniles are buff-brown and black. Birds of all ages and phases have light-colored cheek patches. During the breeding season, adults have a blue patch at the base of the bill, in front of the cheek patch.
It will be cooler on the coast today and we still have a few spots available on the afternoon trips! Book a trip now at montereybayecotours.com
In an average day a sea otter spends about 8 hours feeding, 5-6 hours grooming, and about 11 hours resting or sleeping. Back to School special for small groups! Environmental education on an electric catamaran, gliding quietly and cleanly on the Elkhorn Slough, where you not only get to see the abundant wildlife but hear their playful banter as well. Give us a call at 831-200-3454 or check us out online montereybayecotours.com
