The Montecito International Composition Sessions Call for Applications The Montecito International Music Festival in Southern California is now accepting applications for its Composition Program, taking place July 24 August 2, 2019 on the beautiful campus of La Sierra University in Riverside, CA. This summer will mark the 12th season of the Festival, which brings together hundreds of performers to work directly with such artists as Lynn Harrell, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Glenn Dicterow, Andres Cardenes, Cho Liang Lin, Pablo Zinger, and Leslie Umphrey. This year we are thrilled to welcome new music specialists Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti (viola/composition) and Wendy Richman (also viola!). The Composition Program accepts up to 12 Composition participants for 10 days of lectures, masterclasses, lessons, and rehearsals. Each participant will work closely with resident composers Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, Karola Obermüller, Nicholas Deyoe, and Per Bloland, and with a designated ensemble to realize a new piece written for the occasion. Additional guest composers will be announced shortly. Further opportunities exist for readings and a possible concert performance by the resident string orchestra. The Composition Program offers instruction for two age ranges: 1) Young Composers (ages 13-high school senior) 2) Adult Composers (ages 18 and up, undergraduate through professional) Composition participants receive: Private composition lessons Coached ensemble rehearsals Master classes with resident faculty and guest composers Additional classes on technology, contemporary practices, and aesthetics Access to all of the events and concerts of the Montecito International Music Festival A recorded performance of the new work at the culminating concert Application Requirements: Remember - the application fee has been cut in half! Complete the General Application form for the Montecito Festival, which requires the submission of links to 2 recordings of compositions. PDF scores will be requested directly via email. Once your application is submitted and the application fee paid, you will receive reimbursement of $45 via Paypal from Per Bloland. The priority deadline is March 15; applications will be accepted after this date should space remain. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by the first week of April. (Never fear, the deadline without scholarships is March 15) Get those applications in! Come join a great group of composers, led by Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, Karola Obermüller, Nicholas Deyoe, and Per Bloland, along with Wendy Richman, viola extraordinaire.... Participating composers are assigned an ensemble to work with throughout the week+, culminating in a big old composition concert. Don't delay! Composers: the application fee for the Montecito International Composition Sessions has been cut in half! The fee is now $45 (after reimbursement from an anonymous donor - feel free to contact Per Bloland for details). Come work with composers Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, Karola Obermüller , Nicholas Deyoe, and Per Bloland - plus Wendy Richman of International Contemporary Ensemble fame! Each selected composer will create a new work for an assigned resident ensemble. Over the c...ourse of the week these pieces will undergo revision in a workshop setting, in preparation for the final Composers Concert. Applications due by March 15.
