The weekend before Thanksgiving, Monopoly Residential staff attended a three-day seminar on the topic of private money lending, where individuals can earn double-digit rates of return on loans secured by real estate. During one of the breaks at the seminar, we showed the instructor our own research about the volatility of the stock market over the past 15 years, how the Dow Jones Industrial Average only earned an average of 2.4% compounded interest since 2000 (barely enough ...to beat inflation), and a side-by-side comparison of how much more a person could have actually earned by being a private money lender instead. The instructor was so impressed by our research that he called us up on stage the next day to present our slides to the audience of 100+ other investors from all over the country who had paid to attend.
