Broke-Ass Stuart wrote a great article about Monkeybrains! Check it out:

There is no excuse for what happened to George Floyd. We’re sickened by the involved officers’ callous disregard for black lives, and we’re furious they haven’t been brought to proper justice. Racism and police brutality are not our future. Monkeybrains stands firmly with our heartsick communities, with the protesters on the front line, and with our community members of color who fear for their lives when interacting with police. We understand now more than ever that video evidence enforces police accountability, and the internet is the tool by which that evidence spreads. To this critical end, Monkeybrains continues to do everything in our grasp to better connect our underserved communities, to finally shut San Francisco’s shrinking digital divide, and to help foster a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Yesterday we hooked up an #sfusd family at the San Francisco Candlestick RV Park for $0 upfront as part of our ongoing effort to keep our community connected during COVID-19. We know adapting to remote learning is a struggle for students and their families, so we’re waiving all installation fees for households with #sfusd students to make fast Internet more accessible during San Francisco's shelter-in-place order. Brian X Chan offers a great anecdote underscoring the importance of keeping your home networking equipment up to date, throwing us some kudos in the process :) "A few weeks ago, a neighbor texted me with questions about internet speeds. We use the same internet provider, Monkeybrains, but his connection was much slower than mine. So I asked him what router he owned. It turned out to be a seven-year-old model that used outdated wireless technology. I encouraged him to replace it, and after some hesitation he bought a new one. His internet connection became blazing fast."

Someone drove a truck into their old shop in Oakland and stole all of their screen printing gear. After hearing they were moving the Bayview, we hooked them up as quickly as possible. Now they’re back on their feet and getting faster speeds than ever! The Palace of Fine Arts has been repurposed as a temporary shelter for 162 homeless people during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Today Monkeybrains, in collaboration with the City of San Francisco’s Department of Technology, completed a new gigabit fiber uplink for the building in an ongoing effort to keep our underserved residents connected to the Internet. #covid_19 #flattenthecurve #publichealth #sanfrancisco #internet #gigabit #alonetogether #community @ Palace of Fine Arts Theatre

The City is taking immediate action to procure rooms in hotels and similar facilities to provide temporary shelter to vulnerable persons who are unable to self-quarantine. Monkeybrains is helping to deliver robust gigabit wireless networks at these sites so patients and medical professionals have optimal access to the information they need. #covid_19 #flattenTheCurve #publichealth #sanFrancisco #internet #gigabit

Monkeybrains joined the San Francisco Office of Digital Equity to pre-install 18 senior affordable housing units with gigabit Wi-Fi. These units, not yet occupied, are at 1296 Shotwell St, also known as Casa Adelante. This is one of the first buildings to be constructed fully to the Fiber to Housing standard. When these seniors move in to these fully disinfected units, they will push a button on their City-issued router and get free gigabit Wi-Fi provided by Monkeybrains over public City fiber.

"Regarding the temporary upgrade from 2G to 10G, the only temporary options we have are to either process the temp upgrade for a 6-month minimum contract, or a 3-month contract, with a $5,000 expedite fee if it's COVID related." a spokesperson insisted Zayo doesn't have a policy of charging more for service requests associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus.
