[email protected], [email protected], [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Dear Dr. McLaughlin, President Fitzgerald, and members of the Board, As the parent of CVUSD blended-enrollment students, I am extremely concerned with the explosive rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in our community. When the district opened for in-person instruction, Ventura County was averaging less than 50 cases a day. We are now regularly seeing 500-900 cases a day, with no sign of slowing down. With the rampant spread of infection, other local schools and districts have taken the preemptive step to pause in-person learning for the two weeks following winter break. Not only will this help keep their students and staff safe, but it will help alleviate the dangerous overload of cases our local hospitals are currently experiencing. Please consider pushing the start date for blended in-person learning for elementary and middle schools to January 19th, the same day the high schools are scheduled to return to campus. By pausing in-person instruction, positive tests from exposure over break can be identified without risk of school transmission. Please be proactive and prevent an outbreak instead of reactive after an outbreak already occurs. Our high school students haven’t yet had the chance to learn in-person this school year and it would be an abject failure by the district if steps weren’t taken to give those students every opportunity to return to campus safely in January. While I appreciate that the district claims transparency by publishing daily case numbers on the CVUSD Dashboard, the information released doesn’t give the whole picture. Currently, the district points to dashboard data to say that schools have been minimally impacted, but that data neglects to show how many students have missed instruction due to quarantining. Adding this information would go a long way towards keeping parents informed and confident in the district’s leadership. I, like many other parents, chose the blended option for my students because I trusted the district would make the hard choices required to keep them safe. Please don’t lose this trust as it will be difficult to regain it. MANY parents are considering pulling their children from in-person instruction after the break. By going remote for two weeks, the district will limit learning loss AND demonstrate their commitment to maintaining the the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel. http://www.momsofconejovalley.com/anonymous-post.html
