Mo-Mentum Fitness 10.05.2021

Happy almost Friday! Let's make the most out of this week.

At Mo-Mentum Fitness we work with STRONG women of ALL ages. The word STRONG might make you think about physical strength but for me the word STRONG means so much more. Physical strength can only grow when one knows what she wants! ... Strength, whether it’s physical or mental is subjective! We ALL have strength (inside and out) but we don’t all choose to use it and continue to grow it. Let’s be clear here.we don’t lose our strength with age. We lose strength with a victim mentality, with blind obedience to the current social medical model of take this medicine to .hide the symptom which is actually pointing you to the REAL problem. We lose strength when we quit. We lose strength when we decide we are too old. If you don’t believe me, you’re going to have to tell the thousands and thousands of master athletes who are still competing well into their 80’s and 90’s. They might be reaching the times or amount of weight they lifted when they were in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s..BUT they are STILL STRONG. STRONG is in our minds, our hearts, our souls, our decisions, our words and our actions. I see STRONG every day. I see it in many ways beginning with mindset and ending with physical. STRONG is an action word. It’s a way of life and we decide one day at a time..sometimes one minute at a time to live STRONG.

Many women I work with come to me because they already exercise regularly. They have been exercising for years. BUT, slowly their progress stopped. Many women I work with came to me because they had been exercising regularly and eating clean AND they started to have problems with unpredictable weight change, and unpredictable energy changes gradually or suddenly. In the past many women I work with today, could get back on track by changing their food a bit and exercising ...one more day or by picking up the intensity of their workouts. But that stopped working. Many women haven’t changed a thing. This happened to me. I own a gym.I was exercising one to three hours a day (depending on how many classes I taught) and what seemed like suddenly I started to gain weight in my middle. How could the scale be moving in the wrong direction for no apparent reason? Because our bodies don’t speak the same language as our conscious mind. Our primitive brain (the part in charge of body composition and more) speaks like a cavewoman! The human metabolism is a stress management system above all else. It doesn’t know that we live in 2021 and that we are not going to run out of food. If you are a woman and you are not achieving the results you want.NO MATTER WHAT AGE YOU ARE.the answer is NOT to workout harder and longer and eat even less than you’re eating now. There are several steps you can take to find out what your metabolism needs to get back on track. First if you’ve been exercising 6 to 7 days a week and cutting your calories for more than 7 daysyour metabolism has most likely adapted and slows itself down (to prevent you from dying of starvation.) Marketing,TV shows and even trainers who don’t know any better, will encourage us to workout harder and eat less which will actually push your metabolism in the wrong directions, ESPECIALLY if you’re a perimenopausal or post-menopausal woman. I’m not saying to stop exercising. I still exercise daily.I believe to thrive we need to exercise (move our bodies with intention) daily. More to come! -Amanda Mittleman, Owner of Mo-Mentum Fitness

MYTH OR FACT Reading for 30 minutes a day is linked with a longer lifespan. ... . . FACT! It’s true reading books is linked with a living longer! According to a study published in the journal Social Science & Medicine, compared with people who don’t read books: People who read up to 3 hours a week were 17% less likely to die over the next 12 years, and People who read more than 3 hours a week were 23% less likely to die over the 12 year period. In fact, the book readers lived an average of almost two years longer than people who did not read at all. The researchers used data gathered from a bigger health study of more than 3,500 people over the age of 50. The results were controlled for many factors, including gender, age, race, education, depression, employment, income level, and marital status. Reading newspapers and magazines had a weaker correlation with longevity, said researchers. The takeaway: crack open those books! The holidays are around the corner! If you’re feeling stressed or anxious ... here's a quick way to turn it around! When you breathe, make your EXHALE longer than your INHALE. (Seriously, try it right now. It’s kind of magical!) This works with your body’s nervous system (through your vagus nerve) to help shut down your body’s stress response AND release feel-good relaxing hormones, helping to calm you! ... For even greater benefit, try to breathe through your nose vs. your mouth. Do you ALREADY do this!? Let me know below
